Gents,

I found some reproduction police officer eagles that I don't think have been shown before. This is identified as a reproduction by the seller. It seems to have the sloping wings often seen on these fake bullion eagles as well as the open top rather mis-shapen wreath around the swastika. Any other comments?

Another seller identified reproduction. This one seems to have cellon wings and bullion highlights. Different short droopy wings and muddy embroidery. Anything else?

Another officer style eagle identified as a reproduction by the seller. This one seems to have some age... the old dip it in clorox trick perhaps?

That last one sure doesn't look like a repro to me! That one would DEFINATELY fool me.

I notice that all three have a single vertical ribbon at the bottom of the wreath rather than the more typical cross "X". Although this is seen on originals I think the "X" is more common.

Also, all three bodies lack any highlighting threads or details, and the wings have pronounced inward "bulges" towards the detail lacking heads. Perhaps they are all from the same source.

Bill,

I agree that the last embroidered sleeve eagle seems to be the best of the lot. One thing that I noticed was the legs of the eagles all look to be similar angular embroidery and the backing seems to be the same odd off green color.

Here is another odd one. What do you think of this metal officer cap eagle?

Dear George,

I have NEVER seen a wreath like that before. Thinner at the top and bottom, thick in the middle. I would have to see a period photo to buy into that one. It doesn't seem to follow any TR standards. Every period insignia and decoration that I am aware of, that has a wreath, that wreath has equal dimensions throughout its length. I am not aware of any "tapered" wreaths used during the period. Post war wreaths were taperd though. Perhaps the eagle was attached to a post war wreath????

Bill,

The eagle and wreath both look a little "muddy" in detail to me. I have never seen this one before either so I suspect this is a reproduction as well. At least it is very distinctive so one can spot it fairly easily. It is on what I believe is one of the current reproduction Erel peaked caps.

George

Have to say, I've never seen another visor insignia wreath like that before nor seen one period pictured.

On the repro insignia, I agree that the backing and angular leg embroidery certain stick out. Interesting to see and be aware of. Thanks for posting!

The wreath is taken from a shooting cord and had the eagle attached in my opinion
