Hi folks, I have some medals that some dear friends of mine have given me pictures of that belonged to thier grandfather. He was a member of a SS Calvery unit. Some of his medals are familiar to me like the Russian front medal and a general assault, but others are not. He had an estate in the baltic states and in poland after occupation. Please provide any input as to what these awards are and what they were given for. First pic is of thier grandfather and my friends uncles in HJ uniforms! THANKS for your help!! Kevin. P.S. I think he is wearing one of the unusual white crosses in the pic!

THE CROSSES are the BALTIC CROSS circa 1923 awarded to FREICORPS members and allowed by Hitler for wear during the TR period there where two types the first class which you have two of and the rarer 2nd class on a ribbon.

The medals in pics 4 and 6 are the Baltic Crosse. I don't know about the white enamel crosses. Polish perhaps?

James

The white enamel cross is the Honour Cross of the Baltic Landwehr with Swords. This ties in with his Baltic Cross and his Freikorps service in that part of the world. A nice interesting set!
