I have heard that many WWII Japanese rifles were re-chambered for 7.62X39.the same round as the SKS and AK-47 for the VietNam conflict.Perhaps someone can elaborate on this topic. There is an obvious difference in the ammo in your pictures from the ammo in mine.Perhaps just the photos but someone who is more up on firearms would be able to help us Best wishes Geoff.

Geoff's pouch looks like a later variant without rivets. Amazing amount of construction variations & uses of different materials. My favorite beeing a leather top with rubberized bottom.

Thanks for the replys, your ammo does look different but the caseings look pretty close to the same size ,I think mine was reloaded for hunting, yours has original bullets.Dont know if I should try shooting it or not,my rifle is a later one, might blow up!

Erick, I think your ammo is 7.7mm for the Type 99 while Geoff's is 6.5mm for the Type 38.
