Here's one I have onwed for a couple of years.
I have seen only two over the years: this shotput athlete and a tennis player but that's it.

According to the makermark the figure was made between 1928-53.

Does anyone else has these kind of Schaubach figures ? I don't mean the nice colored naked dansers we all know from post war Schaubach/Wallendorf.

Kris.

Kris,

A first-class piece, great lines and details.

Figures of professional and ameteur athletes were very popular items in Germany and became even moreso during the '33-45 era. I think during the months leading up to the 1936 Berlin Olympics there must have been a huge demand for these types of figurines and many of the big German porcelain companies produced their own series or lines of sport figures. Lovely and lithe young ladies working out with their gold-colored gymnastic balls were all the rage, most were found painted. These original NS-period sculptures make for great display additions to a collection and are still very reasonable and affordable to all, being mostly in the $200-400 range.

These figures are starting to show up more frequently in militaria-related auctions and are nowhere near their price-potential, yet.
I find a major factor for this to be the huge worldwide increase in interest and demand for Allach porcelain.

Many thanks and best regards!

Bill
