I got this back about a month ago and have been working on it ever since. Although not as involved to build as the Tiger, it's still fun.

I added upgraded wheel bearings, drive wheel support bearings, idler arms, idler axle and a Schumo gear reduction kit... oh yes, and metal tracks. Wink

I made the screens on the air intakes from left over screening. The ones on the circular air intakes are not glued down yet.

The wire running from the top of the 88 is just a temporary setup for the Battle System until I get it painted.

Complete with metal tracks it weighs in at an impressive 17 lbs!! Eek

Unlike the Tiger that has one battery for each of the DMD and MF units, the King Tiger only takes one battery for both using a supplied Y cable. Although I can squeeze 2 batteries into the hull, the 2nd battery interferes with the turret rotation motor.

The large black speaker box is empty except for the speaker on the opposite side of where the batteries sit. I'm thinking that I will cut a hole into the speaker box and push the 2nd battery into it thus making room for the turret rotation motor.

In battles with my son, I noticed that the KT is much more sluggish with only 1 battery than the Tiger is with 2.

Another mod I made was to drill out the plastic U bolts and add steel rods to secure them to the body. Many guys lose the clip on bolts unless they're securely fastened.

Firing the 88 and MG using one of the joysticks is cumbersome so fire buttons for the 88 and MG were added to the Futaba transmitter.

Nice job Bernie - what paint scheme are you going for?

I have decided to model a KT from schwere Panzer Abteilung 503 "Feldherrenhalle" during the Battle of Budapest in December 44-February 45.

Although not much is known about that battle here in the west, it rivals the Battle of Stalingrad in brutality and casualties on both sides. What made this battle even more bloody was that hundreds of thousands of civilians were not evacuated and were caught in the crossfire.

In conversations with by good buddy Rick, I am leaning towards no zimmerit with the ambush camo scheme. Many 503 KTs had no turret number at that stage.
