As suggested by another member, I’m going to start branch specific uniform threads. It seems that great uniforms are scattered across are 6,750 postings on 18 pages and to cover all branches on a single thread could be cumbersome. It is a mutual feeling that this consolidation of branch specific uniforms into one thread will perhaps provide an easier reference for visiting collectors. Fire away!

Dave,

I will help populate the database with the GEMPO uniform that I posted on the generic uniform thread. If Gary will post his tunic here, we will have two exemplars for interested folks to examine. This tunic is tailor made in the regulation manner with Weinrot (wine red) piping for Schutzpolizei d. Gemeinden.

Wine red sleeve eagle with black swastika. Note this particular eagle has only five rows of horozontal wing feathers instead of the six rows normally seen.

The regulation uniform plate by Knötel for the rural police and the small town police. These plates existed in a large folio form and as postcards that were very popular for the "Tag der deutschen Polizei."

Gary,

Are your GEMPO cuffs functional? Mine have false slits but are not piped along the edge of the slit (as yours are), nor do they unbutton. I presume your guy had a more stylish tailor than mine did.

Pat,

Really neat sleeve eagle on your GEMPO. I have a couple of officer rank tunics with functional cuffs and the Bavarian LAPO enlisted tunics seemed to have functional cuffs as well. Of course the Feldbluse should have functional cuffs and buttons as should your Bergrock. I think the individual tailors had a lot to do with who did and who did not have them on regular police tunics as I am sure they cost more than non-functional ones.

Hi orpo

Mine does not have functioning cuffs.
Great tunic Pat. You still need to get in touch with me regarding some boards.

In order to keep this thread alive, I will show a photo of two Bavarian Gemeindepolizei short swords. One style of sword has a heavy squared D guard while the other style has a flatened D guard. GEMPO short swords were made in yellow metal while the identical SCHUPO short swords were in white metal. These are both enlisted GEMPO swords with plain wasp waisted blades. Sergeant's swords were similar, except for being lighter, longer, and having etched narrow blades with central fullers. These were worn during Imperial times into the time of the Weimar Republic.

Hilts of the two GEMPO swords showing the blue & silver wire Bavarian Portepee. Both of these swords were manufactured by WKC. Both swords were brought back together by the WWII veteran.

Bavarian short swords for Gemeindepolizei in yellow metal. The same short swords in white metal will also be found for municipal Schutzpolizei. Both swords were made by WKC and were brought back together from Germany after the war. These swords were carried from Imperial times through the Weimar Republic. A similar sword for NCO personnel had a slightly longer, narrower, etched blade.

Very nice tunic Dave! I particularly like the sleeve eagle with the place designation removed to meet new regulations and the driver specialty patch. I really like uniforms like this that show continuing use and regulation changes.

Thanks guys! I really like that tunic (even though it isn’t Gendarmerie!) and I also favor tunics that reflect continued use with visual modification as ordered. Below is now my extra/alternate: another original Gemeinde tunic, unfortunately the sleeve insignia is MIA.
