Gents,

I just picked up a new Bavarian Landespolizei Officer Tschako and thought I would share.

The Tschako has a dark green (moosgrün) cloth covered body with black trim. This silvered Bavarian LAPO Tschako Wappen was worn from 1923 to 1935. The chin scales are also silvered and are nicely toned. I don't think I will clean the insignia any further.

Side view of the officer grade Tschako showing the dual air vents and multiple attachments for the parade plume. There are two hooks and one band to secure the plume when worn. As this is an Erel Tschako, there are also screened vents behind the Wappen plate for ventilation.

View of the interior showing the Erel markings on the cloth lining. This Tschako goes nicely with my Bavarian LAPO Major's uniform.

Thank you for the kudos gentlemen. I have been looking for one of these for years so I was a happy camper to find this one at a very reasonable price. Now the search is on for a bullion Bavarian Landesabzeichen Kokarde (yeah right!). There was a short period of time that this Tschako was worn with a National Kokarde so I will probably have better luck finding one of those. Now all I need is a black buffalo who is asleep so I can secure a brush.

George, perhaps it's staring me straight in the face, but I can't find a second plume hook on mine. The first is above the remnants of the elastic strap. Where is the second? And isn't the length of the shako plate bolts unusual. I would have thought the guys would be walking around with two gouges in his forehead.

Hi Joe,

Look underneath the scaled chinstrap on the left side near the swivel. There is another hook there on mine that faces the hook on the top by the vents. It looks like an elastic, or cord, might be stretched between the two hooks to secure the end of the plume. Probably a rubber band would work. Of course, there is also the band attached to the left chinstrap swivel just like the post-1936 Tschako as well.

The front plate lugs do stick out in the photo. This is because there is no ****ade and/or brush with the wire that would push the plate forward and take up the slack. I did remove the plate to check it and evicted the dead spider who had been in residence. This Tschako is a human size 58 and when I put it on the lugs do not touch my forehead as they are situated too high in the crown of the helmet. I do need a ****ade though. I did find a buffalo locally but now to separate him from some of his hair...

George
