Hermann and I continue our research and background study on Middle Eastern Swords.

I found this sword from the 5th Crusade period interesting for two reasons.

Firstly, Crusader swords from the period rarely have their wooden grips intact and this piece has some history.

The Arabic writing on the blade states that this sword was captured in Palestine in the 1300's, and was used by its captor for a number of years. The sword was then taken to Alexandria, Egypt and then taken to Istanbul where it resides today in the Askiri museum.

Collecting German edged weapons certainly spans the centuries!

Vic,

Amazing piece, I wonder how many it cut down before it was captured. Besides the fact the wood grip is still intact, the only other thing I'm really struck with is the crummy hanging mounts for such a rare & interesting museum weapon.

What a scense of history this artifact conveys.
A real pleasure just to see its photo.
Thanks for sharing this incredible sight.
