Assuming these are real, which SS maker used this caster? It does not look like the horseshoe mark, but sort of a thick C with a mark in the center.

Thanks for any help, John

Thanks Dave, that was easy. Do you know the caster company name or did they make theirs in house? John

Maybe it's the age on these that makes it hard to see. But I thought the cast mark looked like a perfectly round circle, whereas the horsehoe mark is not quite round, more oval. Here's a picture I took of a clear cast mark.

For sure it is an age and "storage conditions" but I can see clearly star on both markings above the horseshoe on this SS crossguards.

John, the Horseshoe marking with the S and the star is ONLY found on NPEA and SA Daggers by Horster to date.
This is confirmed by looking at THOUSANDS of SA Daggers by Joe Pankowski and myself over many years of collecting.
IF anyone has a veteran-acquired piece with another manufacturer using this crossguard marking, we would be most anxious to see and hear about it.

I have an EP&S SS dagger with the Horseshoe+ "8" or "S" markings. It is in the bank, but that is what my notes show.

I bought it from direct from the motel buyer who got it 4 days before from a vet.

I have just found this input and sorry to say but I can not agree. I have an SA E.P&S Rohm dagger with the same inside markings of the crossguards.

In this photo you also see the Horster stylized H on the blade tang. While it bears the Boker TM, I wonder if an interchange occurred between the two?
Also, IF other company crossguards had the horseshoe, Star S crossguards, why don't we see it more often?
