In addition to the WWII unit flags I look for, I also collect the various homefront flags from WWII.

I have many different "Blue star" son-in-service banners, both from homes and larger ones from factories, schools, and towns.

I also have a few "Factory Production Award" Army/Navy "E" Flags. These were awarded to teh factories for meeting quotas. You have all seen the little Sterling Silver "E" pins, that were awarded to the workers. These were the flags that were given to be flown by the factory. You would think in a city like Milwaukee Where there were more factories there would be a ton of these, but they are surprisingly hard to find. There were also Navy "E" and "M" flags that were awarded.

Here is one I just picked up. Note it has 4 stars, the stars represented multiple awards. I think 4 was the maximum you would see.

Here are a few of the flags that I found at the SOS. This is an unusual son-in-service flag it is from a town somewhere in New York state. The Gold star represents 6 men Killed in Action, while the blue star signifies in service. You usually see many small stars on the the field representing the servicemen.

This is "Treasury" award flag from WW2. I am not sure the criteria for this award, but it is kind of a rare flag, and I was tickled to find it on Sunday!

Yes, these multiple star ones were usually from a town, but occasionally a factory or school as well.

The city of Milwaukee one had over 1,000 stars and hung in the atrium of City Hall ( I wonder where that one went...)
