Afternoon all,
looking to purchase my first German helmet and came across this one that caught my fancy. However , would like opinions of those alot more wiser than I before I pull the trigger on this one. Liner has a faint ink stamp 57 plus on the inside 2 more ink stamps 18 and Z? The liner also has a grayish felt band on the inside. I cant see any markings on the metal portions of the liner but then again I dont know where to look without taking it out. On the chinstrap is stamped what looks to be an RBN # 0/0380/012? No new paint smell, no new leather smell, just smells musty, almost made me sneeze. Looks like # 2015 stamped inside the back of the shell. Anything you can tell me about it is appreciated even an estimate as to value so I dont get ripped off to bad.
Thx ESU,

Looks like a nice original Luftwaffe M-42 helmet. I would say price would be from $450-650. Kind of a wide margin but it depends on where it's comming from and how bad you want it.

Thx Raymond, im in the ballpark with the price, a little under the top end, $600 incl shipping if I take it and so far from what I'm hearing the helmet is good and price decent. Was a little worried about the liner, not being stained like it was worn, can tell you this must have been a small trooper, doesnt fit my head lol. Smile

Just out of curiousity what are the 2 wire "hangers" coming out of the front and rear of the helmet?

They used wire wraped around the helmet and put foliage for camouflage. The ones on this helmet look like they were used as hooks. Maybe to hang the helmet when not in use. I believe a similar helmet sold here for $650, so I don't think you can go wrong buying it.
With a size 57 liner it's probably a size 64 shell. This is the most common size.

The hooks were used to attach netting.
