I've seen similar marks related to school markings. Not sure though.

Wow! Amazing!!! I have never seen a marked 2nd Luft! Could this be a school marking? F.L./K.P MUST mean something... Hopefully a native German speaker here can help out. Fascinating! A rare maker with a very rare marking! Congrats, Johnny

Hi Wagner, The Markings on your Dagger indicate a Luftwaffe Company headquartered in Henkenhagen, near Kolberg / F. L. Kp 40 = Flugmelde-Leit Kompanie 40. It is quite interesting! I have seen 1st Lufts and Luft Swords with markings like this when a dagger was owned by a training Squadron and issued / "Loaned out" to Cadets for use on dress Occasions but when they did not own one of their own. This is the first 2nd Luft I have seen marked like this. Very Rare type Marking and a Buchel to boot! Congrats!

Its F L/Kp 48 not 40. as we know similar stampings are commonly seen on Luft First models but whos to say when that stamping was done? I dont like the 8 being a double stamped o our German friends were more regimented than that.IMO someone defaced a really nice Buchel 2nd Luft in an attempt to hump it up ask yourselves why we havent seen others similarly stamped over the years. Is there any provenance info on where it was bought etc available?

OOPs, Sorry about that. It is an 8! I was looking at the first picture where it looks like "0". I would disagree with AJ however, I don't necessarily see a problem with a practice that was used prior being continued with a later Model Dagger. The Schools / Training Wings still existed, and I am sure that Cadets STILL didn't have a ton of Money to play with! Once again, Just because an individual has never run across something doesn't mean it didn't exist. Knowing Wagner, I would think he has probably gone to the "Nth" Degree to feel comfortable about it. The Upside Down "8" doesn't bother me! I LIKE it!! FWIW RG88
