I was able to pick up a couple of very nice swords from an old local collection this weekend. This one is an Artillery Officer with an etched blade to Artillery Regiment 3. I was particularly happy to get this sword as I have an enlisted sword from this same regiment by the same maker that I have had for 40 years.
Now I have both the Officer and NCO styles by Alcoso.

This sword is an Alcoso Nr.119 with a dove hilt instead of a lion pommel hilt. It is gilt brass and has not been cleaned in years but there is considerable gilt under the grunge. The hilt has much hand stippling and the striking eagle stands very proud from the langet.

I notice a couple of things about this particular sword. It has a red felt blade washer instead of a leather one. My Alcoso NCO also has a red felt washer. It has the identical blade etch to my Alcoso NCO (the same style shown in the Angolia sword book). It has a wide painted scabbard with a fixed ring that is identical to my Alcoso NCO from the same regiment. It seems that these two swords were made for Artillery Regiment 3 at the same time.

Thanks Tom. I added the correct hanger and knot to the enlisted Artillery years ago. I did pay market for the EM some 40+ years ago. Of course market value was $125. then as I recall. I paid about current market price for the Officer sword on Sunday. Of course there was some haggling involved so we were both happy in the end.

I bought this sword (and a very nice Weimar Republic period IOD) from an old line collector who was disposing of about a dozen swords. The Infantry Officer Degen is a WKC Nr.159. It has no Wilhelm cypher on the grip or on the chest of the eagle on the guard.

Here is a closeup of the IOD hilt. This is actually a Weimar Republic period sword designed for Unteroffizier mit Portepee with prior service in WWI. The blade has a single wide fuller instead of the dual fullers normally seen on Imperial IOD. The grip is celluloid and of course no Wilhelm cyphers. The NCO Troddel was on the sword when I got it and it has obviously been there for a long time so I am going to leave it alone for now.
