Hi all, this is my first post and first dagger. I have just brought this dagger from a dealer . The blade side with the makers mark has non original grind marks ( not ninety degrees to the blade, ). There is also a chip on the handle and some slight damage to the handle by the bottom crossguard. Is it possibly a ground Rohm? Is there any difference between the motto / trademark measurements on a non Rohm or a ground Rohm? Also what do you think of the engraved number? Any opinions would be gratefully received, thanks, Keith

get some free ware called irfanview. open picture/ resize using percentage/ then save as a progressive jpg format. you can vary the quality bar until you get an acceptable file size. this can reduce a 3 Mb pic to 100Kb with no major loss of quality unless zoomed into.
hope that helps

Another simple option for resizing: One of our members has graciously made this on-line resizing resource available. http://www.wwiirelics.com/phot...izer/shrinkimage.phpSimply upload your photo, and then re-save to your desktop. Hope this helps. BA

I agree it appears to be a ground Rohm. Notice how the spine on the reverse of the blade does not follow a straight line. It also looks like the entire dagger has been seriously polished, which would concern those who prefer the "unlceaned" look. It appears the dagger is authentic, but, as noted, more photos would better help determine that.

Gerd, these are the best pics I have at the moment, sorry the quality is not better. In the hand the motto side does not look so shiny (although it has obviously been polished) and retains about 80% of the cross graining,I just cant seem to take a decent photo of the motto side Regards, Keith

The dagger in question looks authentic to me. ............... But as Grumpy noted,it has been (over)polished.
repainted scabbard, fittings, blade and finaly grip polished.

Hi All: The engraving of the SS number is actually fairly common among the numbered daggers I have examined. The order for applying the number to the Rhm Ehrendolch actually calls for it to be engraved though numerous service daggers are also numbered this way. And the really nice thing is that SS Mann No. 52 764 can be identified and there is a photo of him wearing the dagger! Of the almost 150 SS daggers numbered to NCO/enlisted men that I have identified, only two so far were worn in a portrait by their SS Mann. Enjoy! For it being your first dagger you did great!! I wish my first would of been a Ground Rohm SS. An authentic SS is still an SS. Stay proud1

Legit, looks like the front was polished at some point in time, and the reverse looks like it was subjected to an aggressive method of cleaning.
