It's with great sorrow that I have to tell you that Chip Gambino past away Saturday after a long illness. Those that didn't know him personally missed knowing a wonderful person. He was one of my very best friends and I will miss him very much. My heart goes out to his wife Liz and his two children.

Let me add my condolences as well.
Chip was one of the truly good guys in this hobby.
Dave Hohaus: As a symbol of respect upon the passing of a long term collector the hue of GDC used to be turned "black and white" for a period. Perhaps it would be appropriate to do so now.

Some of my nicest items in my collection came from Chip. He was always a pleasure to deal with and responded quickly and honourably to any questions or concerns.

My condolences to the family.

This hobby will be diminished without him.

Wow! I didn't know he was ill. My condolences to his family and to our collecting community.

His ebay selling was perfect:

Do we have a pinned memorial of all those who have passed? Would be nice, and have a picture too.

I am deeply saddened to hear of this. I only had one dealing with Mr. Gambino & when I called him we had a couple of very engaging & pleasant conversations. One of the nicest gentlemen you could know with an absolutely unblemished reputation. My sincere condolences to his family and close friends.

Jim,

The leaves the guy earned were turned gray. Chip only ever made one post, so he had no leaves.

I only met him once. At MAX about 7-8 years ago. Nice guy and he'll be missed.

Interesting fallout from Gailen's picture.

Der Frog tried to sell Chip a bad SA dagger as seen above. You don't do that to a guy called Gambino

While my history with Chip does not extend as far back as many.I will also miss his messages and his way about how he conducted himself. when my dad died he offered to help me with his coin collection in any way he could. I even meet another collector through Chip. Tom Kendall..... Who I beat out by a few ticks of the clock on a very late Alcoso navy. Chip gave me his contact info and I have considered Tom to be one of the few nice guys I have meet via the internet. Over the years Chip would always help me out when he could. After he moved he even cut me some good deals on hang tags for my collection. I think we have all lost a good fellow here. Sure those who knew him will have an empty space. Bret Van Sant

Wow one of the greats is gone, Chip was a great guy easy to talk to and damn he had some of the best pieces ever just thumb through any major reference book and his name appears in the credits of owning some of the best pieces ever to surface, I bought several rare birds off of him in the last 10 years, anyone remember Mike Hansens collection? Most of the top end stuff came from Chip, this is a sad sad day Frown
