Described by the vendor as an unmarked Holler, I was not disappointed to be told by Baz69 (thanks Gary!) that this piece is in fact an unmarked Tiger product..........

Lightweight fittings clearly less well defined than brass, but perhaps in this case rarity trumps quality.

With thanks again to Bill and Gary

Paul,

Glad I could help a bit ... Wink

What's difficult to tell from the photos that you and Ralph posted is just how diminutive this example is, when compared to a normal size Sr. Forestry Hirschfnger. The scale is more like that of the thinner, longer Shooting Association daggers. The weight and balance of this piece really has to be experienced and weighed by hand in order to truly appreciate some of the unique qualities of this lovely, lightweight model.

Another great addition for your growing Hirschfnger collection, very nice. Smile

Good hunting to all, best regards!

Bill

Great examples shown here of a scarce maker for this type of hirschfnger, as Bill mentioned this type has a narrow blade and a unique vertical etch, the hilts are always of a lightweight material, mine has solid celluoid grip plates.
Pictured is a Tiger on the Right and C&J on the left, clearly showing the long narrow features of the blade.

Gary, you show your pieces with the portepee wrapped around the frog, do you consider this to be the official method of wear for forestry and shooting members, or for certain ranks, or a combination? I guess the question i'm really asking is whats best for display?

The way I have them displayed probably would be classed as not official, I prefer them this way, I believe that the way the knot is tied on your Tiger is the official way, I've bought them like yours and hanging from the frog.
