I just lucked out! Someone I know had a brother with an "old hi-power" to sell, and I agreed to buy it sight unseen, expecting a "shooter". To my amazement, he handed me a gun with all matching numbers and waffenamts! I will take it apart tonight, does anyone know where I can find out which serial numbers were made each year between 1940 and 1944?
Thanks,
Chief

Serial #s continued from the Belgian #s starting around 50,000. According to Whittington production #s were as follows: 1940-8500, 1941-65,700, 1942-80,600, 1943-101,200, 1944-63,000. Waffenamt #s began with 613, replaced by 103 ending with 140. Sometime after # 100,000 a letter was added (a,b, c, etc.)This should help date it.

Thanks.
I will post pictures when I get a chance.
Mine starts with 30,XXX followed by the small a. But it does have the waffenamts (140), and the eagle stamp.
When might that have been made?

Thanks Paul, I am very happy with them.
Robert, Nice PP! I really like those grips. My next addition will be a PP or a PPK. (at least that is what I am currently looking for!)

Hi Doug, This Walther PP was given to me in the 1960's by a man I had a great deal of respect for when I was growing up. He was a member of the 29th Infantry Division who went ashore with the first wave at Omaha Beach. He was a neighbor and friend who is gone now. In 1985, while going through a divorce, I sold the pistol at the O.G.C.A. gun show in Columbus, Ohio. Of all the weapons I've owned in over 50 years of collecting, this is the one I regret selling the most. I guess it really hit home when he passed away and I now have nothing to remember him by. With the internet, who knows? It may someday show up and I may be lucky enough to get it back. Stranger things have happened - I have found the consecutive serial numbers to two other guns I currently own.
