cool Hi gang, question about a helmet purchase.
Numbers are SE66 and 4872.
Painted camo exterior. No decals that I can see.
Head band and liner and string appear to be original.
I couldn't find the numbers in the data base. Any and all info. welcome. cool

Is there a way to tell if the camo paint scheme is a period applied addition?
This is a time sensitive question.
I would like to know either way so I can contact the sell with my findings.
All info. welcome.
Thanks Dutchman.

all I can say the paint now is different ingredient wise,,, isn't the same as now..

IF you can find out the difference then have it tested then at least you know the paint itself was of the right period.... Was done during the actual war? only the helmet guys might be able to tell you that.

-for me if the paint is the right type,,then its good... helmet guys can get finicky though.........

Dutch,,sorry I don't. It seems now that doesn't matter anymore either. My friend that used to collect helmets said they were using microscopes and such .. It got so crazy that he stopped collecting helmets after 30 years and got rid of all of his!

I showed him yours and he said looks good... But I dont think thats going to matter much he's been out a number of years...... He said the helmet guys can't agree on anything. Decals, paint etc. You might try a search on the internet,,,, - 'Camo German helmet paint',, or 'how to tell fake camo paint on German helmets'.. sorry, wish I could have been more help.

Just did a quick search,,,there are a bunch of tutorials on the internet:
