Hello Guys,

I received this dagger this week. It has no manufacturer's marking on the ricasso. Is it an original item?

Regards,
Schmidt

Hey hey hey, I personally would NOT judge the condition of this dagger SO bad. First of all, as ollar stated lready, it seems that you have a period manufactured army dagger most probably by WKC. The crossguard is one-of-a-kind to WKC.
The condition: What we can see the "finish" eg. on the reverse of the cossguard looks strange to me. Because up to now I cannot remember having seen such certain traces of age. BUT in general and, perhaps, after a careful treatment with renaissance wax (or even just vaseline) I am sure it would look better. Personally, although not having seen such a finish, I like what I see(!) and it is just "history" we get to know! as the dagger is original and NOT ruined in any way!
It might also be, as there is no mm, that WKC did deliver the parts to any small country maker who was not very used to apply the proper finish. We will never know.
Interesting piece! Thank you for showing.

Later production example where the finish rarely holds up well over time handle looks ok if it is without chips or cracks and the blade is decent I would say acceptable condition. unfortunately these examples don't rate high on many collectors lists. though as Wotan points out still a collectible dagger in decent condition. I have seen far worse offered for sale at the MAX and SOS for $$$.....Thanks for posting, Ryan S

I agree with Wotan and Ryan, looks like a period WKC with typical later WKC crossguard and single screw scabbard.

The condition is what it is and it won’t get any better. Not a super desirable piece but it looks all original to me and would still be an acceptable example for someone who doesn’t specialize in daggers.
