Here is another badge that I had coveted ever since I first saw it in Hüsken's catalogue some 25 odd years ago..... And it took me many years to track down.
An Arbeits Dank badge for members of the RAD. Simply marked Ges.Gesch to the reverse.

So. what is so special about this badge I hear to ask? These are examples of these on almost ever dealer site.....
However look at the size compared to the usual badge.... An Uber Gross version....

Don, a behemoth. Easily three times probably closer to four times as large as the standard size Arbeits Dank badge. --dj--Joe U.S.M.C.

It’s definitely a beast of a badge. I’ve no idea what its purpose was, all I can think of is that maybe it was for those in the head office? All I can say for sure is that they are as rare as hens teeth.

Don, your example shows much wear so I would definitely think awarded badge. Otherwise one might think store front display piece, but not with that wear pattern. A short run for a few select individuals? Perhaps you will get lucky and find the illusive in wear picture. --dj--Joe U.S.M.C.

Back to the top for any who might have missed seeing this rare piece. I wonder if an ubergross was made in the orange enamel version with gilt metal also? --dj--Joe U.S.M.C.

- - Joe,, do you think they were issued in orange enamel like that on purpose? Or could it have been a mistake in the mixing of the batch of enamel and the inspectors said 'close enough'.

No the orange or yellow or amber badge (which ever is the correct term), is a separate grade (I'm not positive what it's official period title is), as instead of silvered metal on the red examples it has gilded metal. --dj--Joe U.S.M.C.

--dj--Joe U.S.M.C. I've never heard of an orange version of the ubergross, however, having said that, I've only seen mention of the red version once or twice....
