I picked this up at a local auction but since this is my first hunting-type dagger or cutlass, I am not sure what I have. Is it a WW2 German Hunting Hirschfanger? A Weimar Period Hunting Cutlass? It has triple etching (blade front, blade back, blade top) and stag grip with 3 matching pinned brass acorns with oak leaves. It is maker-marked J.A. Henckels. However, I cannot find anything on line that shows a dagger exactly like this one, meaning one that contains similar decorations. The scabbard includes a skinning knife. The dagger itself is more ornate than most I’ve seen online. By that I mean the pommel is more ornate and the grip acorn style includes oak leaves. The clamshell art depicts three dogs taking down a boar. Any help is appreciated.

This piece matches no Henckels hirschfanger that I know of, I couldn't guess who made it but it wasn't Henckels, this in my opinion is post 1945 and more probably put together within the last 10 years or so, no part of this is Henckels including the blade etch.

Thanks, Baz46. would your opinion be this is a parts dagger made from a number of authentic pieces, or just a fake in all regards, or other?

looks to me that they have put it together from parts from all era's, if your looking for something that is pre 1945 then this is not it.

Thanks again. Final question: do you have suggestions what type of dagger/cutlass each of the parts may have been from originally? From what I have found, the grip may have been Imperial/Weimar Forestry Dagger style? Blade etchings very similar to Deluxe Hunting Hirschfanger?

All I can tell you are those parts are not Henckels pre 1945.
