Don,

Very nice. PC mark on the SA Plaque for Paul Casberg. I have somewhere a lapel/stickpin Reiter badge in silver.
My only other piece is a full size Horse drivers badge in bronze. (Zinc base metal with bronze brenlac finish).

Nice set of Reiter badges.

Don,
Both nice pieces. Don't see the youth badges too often. I note the use of a laurel leaf border instead of an oak leaf border for the youth badge. I wonder if Steinhauer & Luck manufactured both badges? I wonder because some badges show the riders right elbow and some don't. Not sure that can be applied to one manufacturer or others also?

Nice example Joe...I didn't know you collected the Reiter/Horse examples.
Interesting about the right elbow detail...I'll have to check my examples.

I only have the Lauer - Horse Drivers badge; still missing the S&L variant.

smile Don,
Thank you for posting your Horse Drivers badge. Nice sharp images. Sorry mine were out of focus. (I replaced the images).
Your example appears to be a much better base metal badge in very nice condition.

I certainly do enjoy these badges.

After checking the elbow detail, we can see the Lauer example has the right elbow detail and the S&L example does not.

I always assumed my Youth Rider Badge was produced by S&L and in looking at the obverse design, I believe it is.

Cheers Joe!!!

Don,
Thanks for the comparison. Looks like the stickpin examples followed the same designs.

Mikee - I assume the eyes (or one at least) light up? I read of a stickpin skull from the late 1800's that had movable diamond eyes and a jaw that moved. It would be interesting to see the small early batteries.

Is the image from a catalog?

Joe,

Yes. Here you go, had to do some digging lol. Very small 3.5 volt bulb for the skull pin and a few old type batteries. Have more references with all types of batteries and bulbs, hasn't changed much. Also has a few badges/pennant flags, types we have seen before.

Hirnverletzter pin for brain injured.
Reverse marked FLL for Friedrich Linden Co. Ludenscheid.

Not 100% sure of the time period of use.
Have seen different versions of pins.
Have also seen armbands with the three black balls and a black iron cross.

Any-one have information regarding these pieces? Or other examples?

Hi Joe,

Not sure about the pin but, "Hirnverletzter" translates to Brain Injured. Is this a wartime or post war pin, for me I cannot say.

What is interesting about FLL is they continued in business after the war.
Here is a Box Camera manufactured in 1951 with the familiar "FLL" maker mark still in use.

The RDK - Reichsbund der Kinderreichen. (State Federation for Large Families).

Has any more information come forth about the 3-D badges? And or the different colors of badges e.g. Red, Blue, Black, "the elusive yellow"? Thanks to Don Scowen for the information that some dealers refer to the blue 3-D badges as Kreisamtsleiter.

Any one have anything to add? Badges, information?

Hi Joe,

You probably already know this, but this one is made by Steinhauer & Luck, Lüdenscheid.
Interesting to see the company logo in use on the reverse.

Don,
Steinhauer & Luck, Lüdenscheid had an awards catalog dated 1939. I do not recall if these badges were shown.

Their mark is seen on a number of Reichsbund der Kinderreichen badges, smooth faced, small smooth faced and 2 part, 3-D raised surface. The only maker mark I recall having seen on the 3-D types. Someone please advise if another maker has been noted on the 3-D's.

Thanks Don. Have you seen the two part 3D in red or black? Not even sure the yellow background exists. (Except as a postwar fabrication).

Don,
Congratulations on adding the black example to your outstanding collection. They must be few and far between.

I think that's the first red example I have seen confused. Some overzealous collector must have buffed most of the silver finish from the birds.

Thanks for showing them. Do you know of others in collections? I rarely see them and what I do see are blue examples.

Thank you Joe, I've had it a number of years now.

I've seen the black a few times over the years, but as you mention the blue is the most common. The red example above is the only one I've seen which is why I saved the images....

Thanks Don.
I know there are many of the pages from the catalog posted online someplace. I have not stumbled across them for some time.

Note, from what I could find I do not think Org. pins/badges such as the R.D.K. etc. were shown or listed.

Here's a nice tinnie that I've always admired but have resisted buying from this organisation. I've often wondered whether it is more than just a "tinnie" or event badge as it lacks a date & place

Interesting Don, I was glancing through a tinnie resource booklet just days ago and saw an REK tinnie will have to check and see if it was like this one.

The recent above discussion of the 3D RDK badges reminded me of a button hole badge that I have for the Deutscher Segler-Verband which has a 3D element. I've only just had the time to search through my files to find the images of it.

This is the only 3D one that I have seen, although, obviously there must be more out there.

The eagle is tiny, only around 5mm top to bottom....

For interest, I may as well post some of the other pieces I have for this organisation. There seems to be a small variety of designs of the flag.

Here are two variants. The one on the left has metal dividing lines separating the different enamel colours, as used on most enamel badges. The one on the right uses a process often seen on "flag" type pins, a background enamel with printed or painted detail with a gloss finish over the top. I will not bother posting the reverses as they are all unmarked.....

Finally a small shield shaped piece used on the head gear. This would be a centre piece on a larger oval cloth backing which (from memory) had a wreath around it.

- yeah,,, 5mm IS small!

Amazing the 3rd reich had so many organizations and each with its own emblem and variant for women, children, etc. etc. Also to find them on everything,, stick pins, cigg cases, ammo pouches, hat/cap badges, jacket badges, fobs, rings, tie clips etc....

Congrats to you guys. You sure do find the rare, hard to find! That lapel piece, other than the Frontbann piece you don't see that many square pieces.. [now that I said that there will be 100s posted grin ]
