Hello friends, may be you came across with interesting ring (skull/ss/westwall) ads in period magazines and books? I would be very happy if someone shares with me with some pictures. May be this topic will combine all known pictures of period ring ads
Thanks

I will start, for me frist and third ring ads are very interesting, not common for me.
NS. - Bedarf and Erich Beier - unknown for me makers, may be someone knows where such ring advertising was and which year?
Uniform Degner is well maker and a lot of ads in "Der Adler" magazine

n0th1ng,,, thats a great one as it shows many rings [12].. In the trade guild booklets, they would show one up to maybe 4 at a time and thats it... Der Adler I believe showed the most and latest of ring ads... I have many many adverts but at present can ony show a few..
Here are 2 early ads.. 1929 and 1930..

n0th1ng,,, you also show something very interesting in your ad... A theory: There were many adverts that show line drawing rings but they were never made..
I believe this one from your ad was never made.. Or,,,, someone, please , surprise me and show it..
I'll post 2 more that I can't find proof of being made....
- ****** I have another ad very detailed in description and shows the ring, and the Translator had written something to the effect: 'The dies are ready, just waiting for your orders'! I've heard but never believed that in the heyday of these rings they would make an unfinished die and wait for enough orders then finish the last day of cutting then made the working die and make them... IF, if not enough orders came in,,,the ring was never made.. I can not prove this 100% but in near 50 years of collecting rings and know of other giant collections haven't seen them!
Again,, I would love to see any of these 3 rings so please give me a great thrill!

Here's an ad for the original Westwall ring from jeweller and its inventor, Gottfried Grau. It was available in pure silver, silvered alpacca and polished alpacca. This photo was posted here a while ago by our departed friend, Götz.

yes I have that also, but I'm saying the example from the NS - Bedarf advert on the left in opening post, and middle ring in your above post.
Is that supposed to be the same ring? Is it just an artists certain rendition of it? Would you order that one and get the one you posted? I've had some collectors say thats a slightly different pattern and some say its just the way its drawn.
A large percentage of the adverts are line drawings instead of actual photographs.

I think drawings in ads nothing more than sketch and in real life ring will looks different. If you take luftwaffe eagle ring from uniform degner ad you will find multiply types of this ring. Why? May be this different types means different makers, or diferent period...who knows. I came across with multiply ads with the same ring design but offered by different makers. May be maker was one but resellers are severals...again...who knows

Thats the problem ,,no one knows.. - Years ago [pre computer] I was a pen pal with Mr. Wilm in Germany. Also a period jewelry retailer,,and,,another period retailer... Letters took a long time back and forth and was mainly involved with 'Is this real?', Did your firm make this pattern?' etc. Period adverts back then were a dream,,in wear photos too, seldom seen etc.
nOth1ng, your correct! they are just drawings. You never knew what you were really going to get but knew it would be close! Those 2 more than likely are supposed to be the same ring,
Rarely you will get a actual photo of a ring for sale, they were most of the time drawings.. - My post above the middle ring and ring to right are such,,,a photo and a good drawing.... I've been looking for those exact rings for years [and others]. I know for sure they advertised for a ring you could buy but they had not made it yet.....

The rings look different to me. These are ads/technical drawings/prints from the makers of those rings, so I would say unique to that maker.

Mikee,
I purchased that ring, along with many more, years ago by a german dealer.
I do not know if Odal's family still own something, but I sincerely doubt it because german dealer referred that they were more than happy to sell anything Third Reich related....at the time.

My understanding is that Götz's wife did not approve of his memorabilia and she quickly sold the lot.

No she was not happy about his hobby.. He kept it very private. He and I had just went in together buying a large box of the trade guild booklets, for gold/silver smiths, for enamellers, for engravers. A treasure trove of great period reference etc. We had paid the guy and half he was holding on to and was going to ship the other half to me. Then after 6 months we would send over to each other the ones each of us could use for whatever reason.... He died so sudden. A tremendous shock of course to the family. ... , and to myself.. We had always talked about what would happen to our collections if we went. So we both put notes in our collections to auction sites, friends that would want, or sell for our families.... So his collection went to a auction house. The rings brought in very high prices! I waited a month then contacted her [thru a translator] about is there a way she could send me the booklets. I offered to pay for her time, etc and shipping... She wrote back , "The family was very embarrassed in his hobby and didn't approve. I looked and don't know where they are.. Anything to do with his hobby has been sold or thrown away".......................... - * To all collectors no matter what you collect to Barbies to Military,,,leave the note......

This was the load we were going to split up.. The wife had some help cleaning up his 'work room' and they probably got thrown out....
IF you ever see them,,grab them. The price can be anywhere from $5 to $30 a booklet... They were very inexpensively printed on a cheap paper that did not last.. Very valuable for the articles, advertisements, and our research...
, anymore period adverts , line drawings etc. please go right ahead and posy away,,,,thanks , G.
