I posted this once before. Not sure if still here so. Another book I can recommend. No war rings. But, plenty of skull rings. Some from the late 40s and right into the 70s, 80s. Many have a decent value still. And a period advert. This ring many buy thinking it is WWII. A known pattern just made even cheaper and has a value now of about $50 to $75 in VG condition.. And, a bag of cheapies someone gave me. 2 motifs we recognize, skull rings and lion rings... For those that collect, value - $25.

you got it Mikee,, same items we see at shows being used all the time..... That bottom example [goggle type] I think could be lighted [?] At the shows though you usually see the tiny 'jewelers' loop' type. Its funny my buddy Tony has an old beautiful one but he can't see good thru it anymore so says,,' Hey G come here for a min' and hands it to me to use for him!! Many at the shows use the the sm loop.... I'm not a big fan of them and use a bigger one as on the 1st page... But yes, still the same stuff used for years!

G,
No description of it having lights or batteries, not sure but would make sense if it did. That sounds like me lol
benten,
I don't see the motors on the ceiling. But yes they did use hanging motors with all kinds of attachments. I have pictures of them and a lot of the many many different types of machines and tools of the trade used.

There's photos/drawings out there with ceiling hanging motors... That photo not too sure. Didn't really look close at the time.. He might be thinking the items hanging in red. But that would need a long flex shaft,,unless the motor you could pull down.. That photo also has the goggles in it too [blue]..
The cloth hanging from the table [yellow].. I've heard the same ,,so they wouldn't waste time looking for a small, dropped part. I've seen a very similar photo with the hanging cloth on side of work table.. A jeweler had mentioned to me they were felt and used to catch the filings when they worked with gold, silver, etc. Probably a combo of both..
1546!! thats something! You know a hammer is a hammer is a hammer. Same with anvils, gravers, clamps... The ring cutters all look like torture devices!

G, I don't believe they are the main motors, I think it's the power button? Not positive.
Picture of a Hanging motor. The number of tools that attach is a lot lol. Motor is clearly pictured at the top of the picture. This is just one of a few I have.

Looks like an early Dremel with a separate power source.
And those egg-shaped light colored things ( red arrows) on the post number ending in "46" are probably counterweights to the shaded lights bulbs so they can be moved up or down. (?)

Well hell. This is the thread with the picture posted by Benten - picture of a jewelers workplace C. Stabenow .1930- 1945 . I searched this forum over for days and could not locate it. Now I have to recall what topic I was searching for it for. Some topic about period tools. I figured it out. Tying up loose ends. Great picture.--dj--Joe

Thanks Joe. That happens to me all the time lol.
Dave, Great eye, Here you go lamp counter weights shaped like acorns. Many types of them. The weight on my lamp is very heavy.

G,
The silversmith desk was called a work board like the one in the picture and was made of strong, dry beech wood, well known model. I can get into more detail but I will leave it at that.
The material under the silversmiths work desk, during the period was called work board skins and they were made of tarnish-proof, soft sheepskin. They came ready-sewn to attach to the board, you can see the attachments in the picture and came in different sizes. Then you had a work board sheet made of a tinplate that was inserted into the skin. Best!

- Mikee, thanks for the great info.. Yes they all seem to be those odd shapes. Guess with the skins,, board they didn't want to lose a single spec of gold/silver filing!! Guess it would be good to catch a delicate tool if dropped as mentioned before...
Any member with tools or study material even if foreign language please, post away.. , Thanks ,G.
