Nice pair of HJ-knifes, Tanker!

Both show the better quality!

That "Gebruder Grafrath" has the date "1936" stamped on the reverse ricasso, but no motto... Which is quite confusing, I guess?

But don't worry, there are many original HJ-knifes by this maker, that show the same, strange feature.

Thank you Herman
I didn't realize my pics were that bad until I looked today. I will retake and post better this afternoon. Ron

Yes, now it shows clearly: this is a "1936" G. Grafrath blade without the motto.

Is the hilt steel based (magnetic)?

Non magnetic for the G Grafath. The Eickhorn has a magnetic hilt. Ron

That's what I expected, so your G. Grafrath is a late production, 1939 or later, with a "1936" marked blade.

That feature is unique to this maker!

Here are a few variants of HJ-knifes by this maker.

Your knife is like the one second from the left.

What about the early Eickhorn HJ-knife, it looks like it is the etched variant of the double oval mark, is that correct?

Thank you very much for the help and the excellent pictures/HJ's. My Eickhorn is the etched double oval and motto. I will try and get a good pic for you this afternoon. Take care, Ron

Very nice Ron!
Yes, that is clearly the etched double oval version, which is one the rarest to be found on early Eickhorn HJ's.

Here are some early Eickhorn HJ, double oval variants, one like yours is the first on the right.

All the other maker marks are stamped versions.
