Hello, I recently got this old hunter from Anton Wingen Jr. Othello. It appears in the 1926 catalogue as model 1699. Am I right, that this logo should date the knife to about 1917 - 1920? Actually, I have the same knife model from W.Clauberg, with the knight logo, wich should be prior to 1920 (mostly about 1900?). Thanks in advance!

Hello Surfer,
your Anton Wingen Jr. knife with "Othello head with shoulders" Anton Wingen Jr. Solingen, is listed on page 569 as Anton Wingen Jr. mark # 4 in "German Knife and Sword Makers, 1850-1945" (2015 edition) by J. Anthony Carter, Revised and Enlarged by John Walter and Henning Ritter. The book also notes on page 569 "OTHELLO" registered 1917. The maker's mark of the 1926 catalog knives is listed as Anton Wingen Jr. mark # 3 on page 569. This mark # 3 is after May 1920 when the Knight mark was acquired from Clauberg.
The "Othello head with shoulders" Anton Wingen Jr. Solingen" mark probably dates 1917 through the 1920's and maybe into the 1930's in my opinion. The Othello head (without shoulders) dates 1937 to 1987 in my opinion. I really like your W. Clauberg knife as I have only seen that mark on swords. Thanks also for the Anton Wingen Jr. 1926 catalog pages as the model numbers of the knives is of interest for collectors to know.
C. Wetzel-20609.
