Looks like this was a de-nazified piece. and the cross was replaced. Seen that on similar pieces where a mixture of alloy and lead was used to form the cross, which shows the same characteristics
No fight, no glory.

I found the dagger, apparently from the same producers as in the topic, with the absolutely identical guard. The guard is made of zinc. In both, the one in the topic (on the left) and the other on the right, the zinc is visible under the peeling nickel silver coating. As is known, there were two producers: Robert Klaas and P.D. Luneschloss. The dagger in the topic by P.D. Luneschloss.

Dagger and cross guard details look fine there might be a little distortion due to lifting of the plating cheers, Ryan
