Hi all,
like to share this Kadettenseitengewehr 1872, also known as applicants dagger.
One of these rare daggers is shown in the Book Deutsche Marine Dolche by Vic Diehl & Hermann Hampe.
The one shown in the book has a different pommel nut and is not from the WKC Company,
but the etch pattern is the same.
I've seen also one at Tom Wittmanns site.
Here are some pics, hope you like it.
Regards Gerd

Thanks, Kreta.

You don't see those very often.

Thank you for sharing. I appreciate seeing your applicants dagger. I wonder why the folding clamshell? Would it actually stick out far enough to be a hinderance?

Good question, Joe.
I did some research and found three different types.
Without folding shell,
with folding shell and additional folding back with pin and hole to secure the dagger.
The model without a folding shell is closer to the blade,

Gerd,

They must have thought it stuck out far enough to warrant the hinge.

Thanks again for showing it and sharing your research.
