Quick look at a pair of Luftwaffe Adler rings. The black one I was lucky enough to obtain recently from Gaspare. They are both brass with enamel around the Luftwaffe eagle. They're well-worn with a couple of scratches/cracks or chips in the enamel but generally in decent condition. Black signified Air Ministry staff or engineer. Golden yellow was either for pilots or other aircrew (Fliegertruppe) or parachutists (Fallschirmtruppe). (Note that the GDC 'Waffenfarbe Guide says that yellow was not used in the Luftwaffe, but that is not true.) Odal posted a yellow ring of the same type a few years ago: https://forum.germandaggers.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=295884#Post295884Does anyone have one of these in a different colour? There was a red (anti-aircraft personnel) and maybe also a blue (medical corps).

Hello Stephen,
good catch....black one is not so easy to find and still missing in my collection.
Here's my four
Ric
P.S. for some reason, red one seems almost like pink.....but it's not.

That's a beauty, Ric. Congratulations!
I've been hoping that blue, brown and red birds will pop up. Nothing so far... 🤨

Very nice Ric!! Thanks for sharing it with us! Hey guys,,grab them while you can still get them.. In a few years there won't be anything around. There was only a finite amount made.. The ground has given up most it has,,,you will then only be able to find something whem someone passes or liquidates.

Here’s another Luftwaffe. At first, I thought this ring was silver. It’s quite heavy but there is no silver content mark. Also, in certain light conditions, there is a yellowish tint at the edges of the shank. You can see this on the last two photos. I wonder if it’s silver plated brass.
What I think is striking is the beautifully engraved cartouche that looks like rose gold. I would guess that this ring was commissioned privately.

Strange.. And unless I'm seeing the same ring over the years..... I have seen a few of these over the years and wonder if somehow there was a small production of them made..[?]

I have had this ring for at least 18 years, Gaspare. Maybe a few guys from the same unit clubbed together and had them made. I think it's a beauty. One of my favourites.

I was lucky enough to obtain this Luftwaffe Obergefreiter (Airman First Class) ring recently. The enamel is chipped in one corner but I still think it's a beauty. It joins my slowly growing Luftwaffe collection.

I'm curious what members think about these two Luftwaffe rings. Personally, I have my doubts as to their being WW2 period. Other than these examples, I haven't seen either pattern elsewhere. Both rings are of a two-piece construction, with the eagle being soldered to the ring shank. They both look like silver but only one has any kind of hallmark. On the second ring, there is a suspicious 'scar' behind the cartouche, which might me a casting flaw. Thanks guys. Stephen

- Some of these pieces made the rounds years ago.. Get determined fakes and they disappear. After 10 years or more they show up again ..
- * Stephen, Let someone else get those!

- * Stephen, Let someone else get those! Ha ha! Too late! I got them both many years ago. They weren't expensive. Thanks Gaspare, that confirms what I suspected.

A nice addition to the Luftwaffe ring group in my collection. Brass, well worn with slight traces of the original silver wash. With wear, I doubt that the silver-coloured wash lasted long.

I really like these Luftwaffe rings from Norway. There are a bunch of them scattered around the forum. The enamel on this one is chipped but that's OK. Normal wear and tear. The inside of the ring looks like it had a layer of silver added, possibly to make it smaller or maybe to mask damage. It has covered the silver mark that you normally see on this pattern.

Those are great rings. I shared one on WAF I was able to find in near mint condition. They are such striking rings! Agreed! Mike
