Thanks for the show photos, Gaspare. It has been over 40 years since I went to a military show.

We do have a local military store in downtown Middletown, DE. The owner is Bill who has been a collector since the 1960's.

Bill is open on Saturday if anyone is in the area. Bill is always getting new items and German helmets from his Belgian connection.

more and more.... I heard we had just under 1000 tables.

Ring report:

- Well I'd say less than 10 German PP rings!! and probably around 75 , US rings.... Prices for the rings were high!, The US enamel rings were high but there were some nice examples... My table neighbor was very knowledgeable with US Army items.. So my 'A' patch with ring were Patton's guys! and the other ring and women's necklace was an Artillery Unit ... Weird is,,the ring are both German made no doubt but the necklace was stamped 'Sterling' ...

- So The show was full. Most these shots from set up day afternoon and the next morning... Only a few empty tables , most full... I usually crop out the ceilings in the photos. Tried to leave these in. The place is enormous! Many rows to look thru,,,I was busy at the table and don't think I even got to see the whole show!!

So it was nice seeing a bunch of US items.. Don't know about anyone else,, it was nice to see a lot of my old friends,,meet some new friends, and make some connection for items to maybe get,, or to sell. So thats the MAX 2024 !!

Remember,,the show is what you make of it!!

Yes very little in Allied OR Axis rings.. They became pieces to hold on to now,,or pieces that get a high price for! Authentic rings are disappearing fast , so IF you see one you've been after go get it because it might not be there next time....

- Tanker,, sorry buddy,,don't know... Maybe someone will see this and know who it was....

Tanker,,,,,The one I didn't get a good look at but had some sort of papers with it [research?] The other was in one of those plastic capsules, and just a quick glance at it I didn't like it .. JR was walking around maybe he'll see this and report on how many if he saw any...

Your probably best off with letting JR have another good close look at it..... Don't get me wrong, I know Don for many years and he is a good guy. . But he is basing the authenticity on it being a die pressed ring.. Maybe make a small investment and buy the new Book on the HR thats shown and talked about here and read it before the SOS show,,you got plenty of time.. Also check around and do some comparisons.......................

My friend G, you have inaccurate information about Don's opinion on the methods of ring production: I spoke with Don and he has no doubt that the rings were made using the injection molding method.

You feel that confident in JR's assessment of an HR? We all make mistakes on rings and some rings that are good and some all bad but when so called experts give their stamp no matter what happens, it doesn't help but taint it. I also think books are the source and good trusted in evaluations from dedicated ring collectors.

Post good clear close up pics here and see what the forum says. There are some very qualified people that can spot things from a good pic. I am just sayings , if any doubt, assessments from qualified people are better that passing look at a show. Beside,we would like to see the ring!

Evgeniy,,, the problem is,,,that for the last 30+ years or so he's been saying the HR was die struck.! Some certificates have that on them some don't...

I mention JR because it seems he had seen the ring already.. Don will need it in hand and your $200 before he gives you an opinion,,,,unless things have changed!

Tanker, of course hes more than welcome to post photos here... We have enough guys with experience and opinions on them he'll get something out of it!

No problem:)
I agree about the forum. I don't think the COA's are worth 200.00 for what you get. In the beginning when they were 35.00 and not much info around, it was worth the money. Nowdays, the forum and folks who have done the in depth studies can provide better info. Just my opinion.

Thanks everyone I didn't intend to hijack this thread I sent JR many pics and close ups when I first acquired the ring He pronounced it good in his opinion from the pics saw no issues but he hasn't examined in hand I took to a professional jeweler of over 50 years gold and diamond exchange he said 900 silver master hand engraved inscription he said, in his opinion and under magnification that the wear appeared to be natural as opposed to artificially done or enhanced he said skull separately attached and seam real I paid for his appraisal. I know many pooh pooh Craig and I understand totally I had bought some rings from him 14 years ago and am well aware of "everything" but he has seen and handled many so his opinion mattered to me somewhat. I was more interested in him pronouncing it a fake, had he actually done so I have shown to several "high end" and "respected" dealers of regard.......all liked it but said they needed Don's blessing.......the ring has been promised to one of those dealers should Don okay it at SOS he has first rights of refusal cheers and best, Ryan
