Hi there!
Just wanted to introduce a beginner to the collectors world. Been lurking here and there and just picked up my first one. Might look for a HEER or LW dagger next to fill up a display box for now.
I did have 2 concerns when I got it in my hands, so if anyone has an opinion do let me know. Also, taking pictures apparently seems more difficult than expected. 1. Motto seems to be slightly crooked? Feels like it's ending "higher" 2. The blade is slightly tilted compared to the crossguard as seen in pic 4, should I be worried?
Anyway, nice to meet you all. Have a good weekend and time to look for more daggers, (different) Dave

Hi, Dave,
Welcome to GDC. I'm Dave as well, one of the Admins.
You've got a good SA, 100% real. To answer your questions:
A higher motto or slightly slanting motto is often on SA/SS daggers.
The rotated blade is not a problem. I'd leave it, but you can loosen the nut and turn it a little. I use a 3/8" wrench ground flat.

Great looking untouched piece. Lots of original lacquer remaining on the scabbard as well!

That is a very nice early SA-dagger by F. Dick, there is nothing to worry about!
A great start of a dagger collection!

Hi Dave just a tid bit of info ...the logo on this Producer is one of the more common ones seen out of 6 logo variants. What separates them is 2 little dots one dot on each end of the logo. Your dagger has no dots. F. Dick also was a producer of Rohm daggers and also the same scenario that some Rohm daggers had dots and others did not. Rohm dagger logos will be more closer to the lower crossguard than what is standard as seen on your dagger So the first 2 standard position logos will have with and without dots The 2nd would be the Rohm daggers will have with and without dots The 3rd would be the logo being across the spine of the blade and not parallel with the spine....with and without dots. So 6 all together ...and for the type collector its challenging to collect logo variants if they wanted to and this is what makes this hobby so much fun and satisfying. Now days even some of these F. Dick types are getting difficult to find..but your example is perfect and shows the correct details to be seen by this producer. Nice Find Regards Larry

Hey there Larry,
Sorry for the super late reply, home renovations taking my time.
Thanks for the information, didn't know about the dots yet. Time to look into it more! Where did you learn this? Was it just over the years or some specific place like the books?
Have a good weekend, Dave

All six marks are in the "Maker Marks - SA Daggers" gallery in the GDC Reference Library.
