After a long away and a change of focus I felt now was a good time to get back into the forums as i am still passionate above this hobby and have a little more time. I am also once more hunting for the elusive.

Hey that's cool!! I took a number of years off and a health issue brought me back. Good for you!! This site needs more people to return. They good ole days were much more fun! Hell I even miss those Sunday night chats back in 2000 2001. Once people started abandoning ship tons of good people left. Who remembers the raffle? I never won a damn thing but it was nice to be in the running!

Raffle was great moderators and members were outstanding I have always wondered why GDC died a quick death and yet WAF and the Axis forums thrived regards, Ryan

Axis is more of a history forum..

WAF,, how many times can these guys ask 'is this SS skull, tab, eagle,, dog tag,, SS helmet good?' smile [ hey guys, use the search! if it's good then show it] - OR the famous from the experts,,, 'yes I believe that wound badge, mothers cross, Pz badge etc., is an interesting variant'. I had asked one time a while ago why its a variant,,,and almost got banned. Its still a good site and they like everyone else have slowed down immensely....

This is the premier dagger forum. Still the best with any kind of blade.. Thing is ,seems like the membership has everything already. grin or they can still visit the ring / jewelry area here!! grin

I disagree that GDC has died. It's usually quiet here in the summer, albeit I seem to spend a lot of time being the forum policeman. I have deleted a whole bunch of junk posts over the last couple of months. There are some very weird people out there.

Granted, if more of the members here contributed actively to conversations, rather than lurking in the background, it would be a lot more lively and interesting. I don't think it's any different at WAF, at least a far as rings are concerned. Sadly, the ring forum at WRF is all but moribund.

Hey Ryan! Lots of bruised egos and personality issues. Some didnt agree on how the boat was driven. Member base is nothing unless a forum has activity. It's easy to earn a bad reputation and harder to earn a good reputation back.

There are members here that have been here for years and you can count their photos on one hand! grin

Bret I agree with you. That sometimes happens. But after a while,,,,I mean come on guys... Some of you dagger guys known each other for many years , even if just on the internet.. Let the BS go .. You get something nice in,,you know your proud of it or you wouldn't have bought it! Let us guys that don't know the stuff have a look. OR if you have the knowledge and there's nothing but crickets,,clue the rest in...........

My main area of collecting was daggers. At one time i had over 250, SA, NSK, HEER, LUFT, NAVY, RAD, SS, TENO, HJ, NSK MARINE, LAND CUSTOMS, WATER CUSTOMS. That was the bulk, add to that my bayonets i had quite a pile. I had been collecting over 30 years, my knowledge retention is almost photographic, i learned a lot from other collectors and most important i always asked WHY something was questionable and took the information on board. If i disagreed, i would state why and that would be that. It was an education and even books can be wrong.

I have found many unique items during my time in the hobby. Posting in the early GDC forums was great fun for a long whille. members showing items from their collection and items with potential. There was a lot of expertise within the forums but some would not accept their opinions. All collecting revolves around a persons knowledge base, expectations and money. Not having the knowledge was never an issue but taking the advice sometimes ruffled feathers. Having high expectations about an owned or new item was also an area where ruffling happened. Then there was the value aspect, a one eared monkey will always be just that no matter how many hats it wears.

I will be lurking within some areas and if i feel a comment is valid, good or bad, i will post, just dont shoot the messenger. Opinions are just what the word implies and nothing should be taken personal.

Welcome back Spock, sounds like you had a stunning collection back in the day.
It will good to have the opinion of a long time collector as yourself, please don't be put off by the odd d*** heads that will argue that black is white and all that matters is their opinion, this forum has dwindled over the last few yrs but the knowledge of the contributors here is much needed
