Greetings! Purchased this at an auction a little while back, not sure about authenticity. Shows earliest Eickhorn double-squirrel makers mark. Would love to know what pattern this corresponds to. Is marked with the “Ges. Geschutzt” on the blade, and spine is marked “W. Michovius Hoflieferant Cottbus,” which was, I believe, a re-seller?

It's pattern 429, this piece is from the Imperial period circa 1906, Cottbus was Eickhorn's main distributor.

Just a little addition, I think Baz69 meant MICHOVIUS (firm), located at Cottbus, as Eickhorn´s main distributor.

Hey Wallis,

check out the "Period reference" thread, page 1 by Baz69 (Gary). Baz69 has generously posted 10 pages of Carl Eickhorn catalog pages.

Best regards, C. Wetzel-20609

Did a look into my contemporary MICHOVIUS list and could find it there.

Calvin, I haven’t been able to locate the period reference thread - I tried searching under Baz69, but I didn’t have permission for that sort of search. What main heading is it under?

I also see 2 things I have questions on: the hilt is in the obverse direction than the picture in the catalog - mistake? Second; I see that it is shown with a portepee, or Troddel, or . . . were these used for purely hunting daggers, and if so, would the colours be purely green, or . . . what?

Hey Wallis, someone had the handle and guard off your Eickhorn and then put the guard on wrong. Loosen the acorn nut, carefully take off the handle and turn the guard to match catalog.

To find "Period reference" click on to "Hunting, Forestry, and Shooting Forum" and scroll down. Also see there are threads on Portepees, used on military and hunting edged weapons.
