Here is a recent addition to my treasure chest. Such rings were apparently popular among the imperial Russian troops and this one is pre-1918 (pre-revolution). It has a Russian '84' silver mark on the outside of the shank. After 1798, ’84’ was the minimum legal silver standard in Russia and denotes a silver content of 875.

I wonder if such old Russian rings gave German silversmiths the idea of the skull and snake patterns that we are more familiar with. Very pleased with this little beauty.

this ring a copy.
I have the same type in my collection.
Very well know ring...
these rings are not directly related to the troops, these are ordinary jewelry, please do not fantasize, anyone could have bought them, you were misled, here in Russia we know more about these rings.

I didn't say they were related to the troops and I wasn't misled. I said these rings were apparently popular with the troops. Like German canteen rings, they were available to anyone... including soldiers. I have a photo of a woman wearing one.

I don’t know, it’s hard to say whether the soldiers liked them or not, this is an unanswered question...
But the ring is still a copy, recommend will back it to seller

Sorry Stephen, the eyes, the band, the mark, the snakes, the bones and probably has other problems. I agree with Evgeniy,,,this is a current produced [last few years] ring... Get that refund if you can.. Unless you paid little and like as a wearer..

Stephen , You can check/compare with some others here. We either have a topic or they are in the Skull ring topic... One of the earliest adverts is a Russian one but they were available everywhere. Usually, a hollow skull from a pressing and cut out on band.

They say Himmler wore a skull and snakes ring... Some call it an 'anti-partisan ring'.....

Yours is a very nice representative, good quality.....

- *Just checked,,,there isn't one in the skull sticky... But I posted a Russian one and the ad was here.. Might be very old and gone[?]

OK, wanted to confirm some information before I posted..

- Evgeniy referred to the Skull & Snakes as being Russian. The oldest advertisement we have for a S&S is in Russian. 1911 !. - It was also told to me that Ukrainian anarchist leader Nestor Makhno [ 1888-1934 ] while having no set uniforms used a crude black flag with skull and,, that most of his men wore S&S rings!

- Next we have a drawing of a S&S ring. Having a stock number is from the 3rd reich period as on another page its listed in RM..

- And last a S&S that is familiar to us because they were made like this during the 3rd reich era. - This example though I'd say is postwar because [and please correct me if wrong ] the price is listed in M for marks..... Being a silver ring ,in oxidized finish and red [?] gem eyes. the price reflects postwar...

- * S&S rings are an old favorite pattern from probably the 19th century to current days!

Great information, thanks Gaspare. I have several German skull and snakes rings. The one I posted here is the first one I saw with a Russian hallmark.

Here's another (German) skull and snakes ring ad. Some people called these 'Wehrwolf' rings.

Those are beauties Evgeniy. Thanks for posting. There are definite similarities to some of the German patterns. Presumably, the Russian rings will have Russian hallmarks.

A nice treat to see the grouping, thanks Evgeniy!..

* Like the complete skeleton band pattern... Looks like he's holding an hour glass,, more of a memento mori pattern. Still a beautiful ring! - I'd love to see a clear photo of Himmlers S&S ring!

I mean shots of officers, for example - too the details of the rings are also not clearly visible, it is difficult to determine what is there, one can only assume that it looks like rings with skulls

Zooming in on this guy's rings, I could be persuaded that, not only are they skull rings, but I also see a snake's head on each of them.
