I just won an auction on the popular auction site for an old Schutzen medal. The medal is engraved " I Preis, Burgerschutzen, gilde, Bruch". The winning bid $31.24 + $13.50 S+H from Germany.

I believe it is from the German Imperial period, about 1880's to 1910's. The back of the lower part of the medal is marked 800 for silver. The top part of the medal (Crown) is probably brass.

The suspension device, a ribbon or pin with ribbon, is missing.

When I receive the medal, I will try to contact the Burgerschutzenguild "Bruch 1864" e. V. and ask for any information they can give about a possible date.

The Schutzen medal "I Preis, Burgerschutzen, gilde, Bruch" has arrived today from Germany.

I have found another I Preis Schutzen medal that is similar to this medal, with the same 8-pointed star adornment hanging from the bottom, dated 1926.

I would now date the above medal from the 1880's to 1930's. The 8-pointed star is made of brass. The back of the brass crown has a 10 mm oval loop to suspend the medal probably by a neck ribbon.

I sent 2 emails to two members of the "Burgerschutzengilde, "Bruch 1864" e. V., Recklinghausen" and have received no replies as of today.

However, I have found an identical Imperial crown on another Schutzen medal dated 1898. The back of the brass crown has the same 10 mm oval loop to suspend the medal but also has a smaller ring attached.
