Well you wondered about them.. You thought about it. We have ALL seen at least one in our travels..
Fantasy rings!! A ring not produced pre war nor during the 3rd reich era.. Very simple? Well, not really sometimes..
This ring shown.. There are rings called 'Badge rings' A ring that is often a stick pin custom made to be a ring. And,, commercially made for retail rings with a branch of service badge on the cartouche.. This Panzer ring ,,well there is a version that does exist made professionally. BUT,,, not with the band like this... So a bit tricky for this first one but this is a fantasy ring!
So we have many that are not so tricky so if you see them put them on up with any info you mght have. IF you have no nfo,,no matter put it on for others to see.. Thanks men!.... , Gaspare
PS
Guys this one is purposely hard to show what can be a fantasy!

SO,,, here is a much easier example! This posted by 'Mike' some years ago: This fantasy ring has been around at least since the 1970s as I myself have seen them as early as 1973.... I'm sure they have been around way before so this is a early fantasy pattern! The 'SS Officers Belt Buckle Ring'.. Some have incredible detail and made very nicely,,thin band , good finish etc.. Some made like junk.. This one is halfway. Kind of good detail to cartouche,,,but thick band and unclear hallmarks. On the real nice examples of this pattern you will see that the emblem on ths sides of the band is actually the Snipers Badge! Why? Who the hell knows So,, no matter how nice. aged or if came in a 'lot' of all authentic items,,,,,this IS a fantasy ring to beware of!

Here a very infamous fantasy ring.. First for all the new collectors.. ANY ring that has the SS motto on it is a fantasy. Let it go to someone else and don't worry you did not miss out!! So this ring I show now.. I've researched this ring for around 30 years now. I tracked it down to the gentlemen who designed them and produced them. He has now passed away a few years ago. Here is a shot of the first generation 2 piece ring. It was made with real black enamel.. Detail was very good. Over the years there has been many generations. Copies of copies of copies! When I found the man who first made them he invited me to visit and had a treasure trove of authentic and high-end fantasy items.. I was with him for 3 days and on the last day he admitted he still had the original dies he had made and would I like to see them! ... I took a bit of drinks but he finally let me photograph the dies.. Here they are.. ---- * SO remember no matter who shows you what,,who just dug one up,,,this is a fantasy ring all the way

Or this monster, a complete fantasy ring from the 4th Reich. The eagle is stolen from a Third Reich period fork and soldered or welded to a cast ring. Horrible!

It's worth browsing the old posts in the forum. Lots of cool stuff most of us forget or never knew about. Here's one from 2008 that shows three well-known and 'popular' FANTASY SS ring patterns. These horrors can be found in eBay and elsewhere. Buyer beware! Link to old post: https://forum.germandaggers.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=104453&page=1Photos

Thanks Stephen,
Even I can see how crude and lacking detail they are.

Dave Indeed, they are horrible Dave, But lots of less experienced collectors are fooled by these common fakes. Hopefully, people will check here and other fora before wasting their money. Stephen

You posted it It might have been dug up but it was dug up by the same fraudster who buried it in the first place! And it's a fantasy ring too. Never existed in the Third Reich. Incredible! Here's the link to your post. https://forum.germandaggers.com/ubb...;Words=viking&Search=true#Post347260

Thanks so much Stephen! - That small clip of film is one of the reasons the law says: ' Ground dug is not a provanance'.
Many collectors in the 70s believed this ring to be an authentic pattern! Collectors would get it in a 'lot' buy where all the other items were authentic and there was no telling them it was fantasy..
Well guys there are still many fantasy rings out there lets see how/if the topic grows........

Thanks, Benten. The one on the top is strange. It looks like the eye sockets and nose have been filled in. The SS ring in the middle is just hideous. Complete fantasy.
The two rings on the bottom, I thought this is a known pattern - perhaps a prewar memento mori ring? - with our without glass eyes. The three rows of teeth are somewhat strange, not to mention suspicious though.

Like the first ring sometimes there is a fine line between a good ring and a fantasy.. Bentens first ring many will think iyts good. but if you saw all of it 360deg around and checked ,,its a fantasy ring for WWII..
2nd The 'SS / SD' ring has been around a long time too. I remember seeing that too in the 70s! Pure fantasy!
The last is a Memento Mori ring. There are adverts etc. But after 91 weird ones started showing up like the 3 rows of teeth etc. Those are just late produced. You can buy them even right now.. So not really a fantasy. - Many collect the older ones because,,,,they were found with German vets belongings or testimonies from German vets they were for sale as MM rings during the 3rd reich era.. I stay away from them completely. The old ones are nice,,just my personal preference....

Stephen,,, that Luft ring above. The maker/designer said he got lazy and modeled it after a college ring he was wearing! The 1st generation of that pattern was pretty nice [details etc] but soon it was copies off the copies off the copies!!. But in the 70s many were sold..... Now that sniper ring... I've seen other patterns of sniper ring before . But deciding to make it a sniper ring wasn't the smartest thing to do.. Many Germans hadn't even seen the real insignia! The insignia was hard to get even if awarded.. To make a late war ring like that.

Heres a real infamous one!! The SS dagger link ring!
A big hunk of sterling! This was a wearer ring I had for years. I have never seen a polished one. They were always in the oxidized finish.
