Just came across this older post from Gaspare... I'm telling you guys, when you have time, have a look through the old posts. Loads of interesting stuff in this Forum...

Gaspare, this same photo cropped up recently on Wehrmacht Awards. It is a modern photo, taken in 1979 by a Leica photographer called Herbert Piel. If you zoom into the bottom right of the photo, you can see the date clearly: 1979.

Here's a link to an article about Herr Piel. Scroll down and you will find the same photo.

In another internet article about an exhibition by Herr Piel, the same photo is shown. According to the article, the hand belongs to a former member of the SS-LAH. Note the text in bold:

"Beeindruckend und exemplarisch für seine Arbeitsweise und Sehweise das Foto des SS-beringten Händepaars eines ehemaligen SS-Angehörigen der Leibstandarte AH und diesem übergeordnet die Arme mit der eintätowierten Konzentrationslager-Nr.".

Translated to English, this says: "The photo of the SS-ringed hands of a former SS member of the Leibstandarte AH and the arms with the tattooed concentration camp number are impressive and exemplary of his way of working and seeing."

So its a postwar photo taken of a LAH vet. HR looks weird,, Probably both rings postwar..

Yeah we have over 50 back pages. Some of the real old topics the photos might be missing but the info might be good. So always good to look around. Our pinned pages are the best anywhere!

Wouldn't it be sad if even an SS-LAH veteran was reduced to wearing copies? I wonder if this guy was even awarded an Honour Ring.
