Hello,
Found these on e-bay a while back, and I have never seen them before. Perhaps some of our German members can clarify exactly WHAT they were used for.
They appear to be Imperial Era police paper seals. Now I have certainly seen rubber ink stamp seals, and embossed seals but not these gummed paper seals. They wouldn't seem particularly secure for any "official" use. Purely decorative? They almost seem like envelope seals for mailed correspondence.
Does anyone have any ideas? They certainly are colorful, and obviously show the state and city "wappen", I assume with crown dating pre-weimar, but I really have no clue. A couple indicate "Imperial" so an educated guess.
Best regards, Bill Unland

Very interesting seals Bill. I've not encountered these before, although these remind me a lot of the license discs with all the different authorities!

Nice stamps Bill. These were used on official police documents such as permits, etc. There are quite a variety of these and they are collected like postal stamps.

My Grandfather on my Dad's side of the family worked for 40 years at the turn of 1900 for a Land -Insurance Company in Berlin and I got a book of 50 pages filled by him of these letter / document seals .

This document from the local 'Amtsgericht ' to my other Grandfather , this time on my Mother's side of the family , shows how these seals were used on a document / letter .

Bill/Bernd, What a treat for the eyes, better than the fireworks we watched last night ... I've always enjoyed looking at stamps, but these units are much better! Sincere thanks for taking the time to share these little marvels with us. Kind regards! Bill Warda
