And,,, how to spot and where to look!! 1st before we go on... In our field of collecting you must have a loop! I don't care what kind or power it is but as long as it will enable you to see faults , problems like shown here then whatever your happy with! But it is a must! So,,here we have a desirable ring.. A West Front Skull ring! More rare than a West Wall type. This one with Jewel eye too! Lets go,,,, So when you see 'Gems' set like this its done by a unprofessional,,period. Was it done during the era? sure maybe if done out in the field etc. Next,,one of the sides,,,there you go a fault line.. They can't get rid of it . Only way is to polish away but then there is no material left and looks weird so they just hope you don't notice! The blue lines might be pock mark faults. They look polished out a bit..........

and the last:
Inside band.. The bands of authentic rings were almost always finely finished and a good polish. Nice and smooth... This one,,you don't even need a loop. Streaky, looks like someone used some fine sandpaper...
IF we had the ring in hand I'd bet we'd see many more faults... So this is a good start. You would Not want a ring that even showed one of these faults!
Get a loop!,,,and practice. Check your good rings. Check your fakes [ I call them tuition rings].
The fakes always display one of these faults. Maybe not as pronounced as this ring. - That,,finding those rings really worked on to pass are the ones you got to make sure you don't get burned on!. - Practice,,,make comparisons, with authentics not other fakes. . Always study the authentics....
This one has a clear maker mark[?] Big deal. Means nothing... The cast in content number should tell you it was cast in instead of stamped in..
Be careful out there guys.......and find some rings!!!
