Hello, I bought this SA ground Rohm dagger after it had come in from the son of the vet who brought it back. Trying to find out info and make sure it’s good to go… the blade is in very nice condition and the fittings are great, I appreciate everyone’s opinions on this one. Thanks!

Hi, Orange,

Welcome to GDC. Lots of daggers and other stuff here.

Can you post another photo if there are the remains of the Rohm dedication ?

There isn’t any remains of the dedication. Looks like it was a pretty thorough job to remove it!
Do the crossguards look like Pack guards?

Orange,

What I think you have here is a non-Rohm EP&S SA dagger. The trademark is too high off the guard for a Rohm dagger.

The dagger has been over cleaned. What you see covering the trademark and higher up the blade are scratches made by steel wool or something similar. It was probably used on light rust as you see at the bottom right of the blade. The grip was cleaned too. From the smooth thin remains of the scabbard finish, the son gave that a lick too.

But you do have a Pack dagger, guards and all from what I can see.

Look for a nickel silver clip to add to the short hanger.

Here is what a full ring would look like.

On the short hanger you have, you appear to be missing the clip as well as the small 'keeper'

That's a very nice matching set Dave. Yours, or a file photo??
One would think it would be easy to put a set together these days.
I have been looking for a dark brown belt loop with RZM markings for years.

It's mine, Ed.

Here the picture before cropping. The one on the right has a small buckle style grip holder, which I think is an earlier variant ... but who knows ? grin

I always thought that hangers added a lot to daggers.

Both nice Dave. I like the buckle Grip holder.
That set matched very well also.
You see so many put together sets now, not worth having in my opinion.

For a Pack early SA it is void of a Gruppe mark ...which should be common if this is a non Rohm.

You could be right, Larry. Pack trademarks vary more than any other. As for Gruppe marks, we see a small percent of early daggers without them and speculate as to how that happened .. without an answer.

I hope the OP found a clip for his hanger

The Pack SA-dagger posted here is most likely an ex Röhm dagger, what explains why that side of the blade has all the scratches and the motto side not.

Pack Röhm SA's came with "close to the guard" and the "normal positioned" maker mark.

Second and forth daggers hereunder are also ex Röhm's with that mark.
