I hope these pictures load alright. Ring was posted on a different forum close to 20 years ago. One member looked up Herbert Siems in the records and said Ring was definitely authentic. I've since lost the info on him and his ss number

Hello,

by pics posted it has good chance, but close-up of whole engraving would help to definitely judge.

Leebo60 , , first welcome to the forum here..

Yes appears to be a good ring. But these days always post as much info as possible.. Name, seam, etc.

Please IF anyone has this SS man Herbert Siems number or any info it would be appreciated if you could post it...

Leebo60,, are these the old photos? if so maybe some new ones would be good to see for the members who study these rings.., thanks , G.

No I just took these pictures. I've lost old pictures over the years.

Hello Leebo60, welcome to GD.C!
If there is one thing you should NEVER do to an SSring, and I emphasize NEVER, it is to clean it....

Ring looks worn, with some small wearing damages (but still HIGHLY collectible!) and original to me, as far we can see from these pictures.

The ring was obviously the death head ring of Herbert Siemß, 1938/39 at staff of Abt.XII, at these times no party member, his SSnumber has been 277348 and he was born on 6.2.1912. He became SSleader (Ustf) on 12,9.1939.

Thank you very much for the info. I cleaned it very lightly with a microfiber cloth with a little flitz polish on it. Hopefully no damage to it. I will definitely heed your advice though.

Probably did not help it any. Shiny is not always the best! Any abrasive (Flitz is) should never be used on anything that has the blackening in the recesses. You would be wise to heed member wotans advice.

Leebo60, just for better explanation: The honor rings have been produced with a lot of artificial near-to-black patination. That prooves and shows us, that it has not been the aim to let them look shiny. This artificial patination often has been worn away during normal wear. But often, in recesses, it was well kept or even new, true patination did appear. So taking away any patination is never a good thing to any original honor ring. As these rings consist of nearly to pure silver it is obvious that new, original patination will eventually appear. But this will normally take a lot of time, even years or decades, especially after a cleaning (the cleaning prevents the generation of new, true patination for long time).
Regards,
