the inscription would suggest Bavaria as the mention of Munich.

Why do you think it is a bayonet ? I see no way to attach it to a rifle / musket.

(The French 1868 bayonet for the Chassepot has a similarly shaped blade)

This style was in use from roughly 1870’s throughout the 3R. Typically associated with the later 1800’s, I purchased a similar piece with a shorter sawback blade and a double oval Eickhorn mark (model #435), identified as a variant Feuerwehr sidearm.

Would love to know its true purpose myself, I dig the distributor marked blade too.

I would guess that it is an Artillery Short Sword from 1850 - 1900

The blade looks like yataghan form, the frog hook is not typical for bavaria, should be compared by side to side, is possible the piece is a Faschinemesser of Bavaria for dress using.
