Here is my Weyersberg & Stamm, Hirschfanger. The condition is poor, a real "Beater", because someone actually beat on the clam shell mount to try and tighten the handle to the blade.

The Hirschfanger is lacking the skinner knife, upper scabbard mount and a clam shell decoration.

Weyersberg & Stamm, Solingen is listed on page 563 of "German Knife and Sword Makers 1850-1945" by J. Anthony Carter, and notes that the latest-known dated sword is 1883.

The company was active between 1817-1885.

My best guess is 1870 to 1885 for this old Hirschfanger that had a hard life. Over length in scabbard is just under 18".

I probably paid too much for this poor example, $149.99 on Jan. 2, 2021, from eBay.

Here is a Weyersberg & Stamm, Solingen (Saufanger).

This Saufanger has the same arched stamp as my Hirschfanger and is missing the bottom scabbard Chape.

It probably also dates about 1870 to 1885.

It was offered on eBay for $525.00 in Jan. 2021 and it was later sold.

Wetzel,

The first Hirschfanger you posted looks like something was attached to the clam shell at one time.

Yes Mikee,

I noted that the Hirschfanger is lacking a clam shell decoration of some type.

Maybe a family crest or hunting / shooting club ornament of some type.

I would love to know it it came from the factory with the decoration.

From the condition of the Hirschfanger, I think maybe some children played with and abused this Hirschfanger.
