I recently acquired this Eickhorn NSD Oberschule extra seitengewehr with the sutterlin inscription “Ehre Kraft Freiheit”. The piece has taken a few knocks over the years but it’s in fairly good shape. Doing some research I came across an ancient posting on an “HJ” forum that alleges that these are all fakes. Their denunciations of these pieces ran on for pages. It looks ok to me but what do I know? I didn’t pay much for it so if it turns out to be bogus I wouldn’t be crushed.

Hello Len_S, laughable attempt from a "HJ"forum to make a true thing bad. These bayonets are right as rain! There exists an invoice from this school to EICKHORN about buying a quantity of these etched bayonets (the ethcing is described). There is also a chaper in a book about schools at those times (AH-school, NSD-O.school and Napolas) in which a pupil of these times clearly tells about his time at this school and the thrilling moment when the pupils of the 6th class got their bayonet with the inscription "Ehre, Kraft, Freiheit". So what more proof is needed...

Btw EICKHORN (early oval trademark and the trademar shown by you) delivered the most part of these bayonets, a smaller part as delivered by J.A.HENCKELS
Here is mine with the proper, early cuff title (there has been a later one). And the proper passage in the book.
Regards,

Len,

I agree with Wotan regarding the authenticity of these bayonets. The Henckels examples are fairly hard to find but occasionally an Eickhorn example will surface.

This example looks correct to me. The only thing that made me look twice was the obverse rivets with one heavily oxidized while the other remains bright. The etch though does look well executed and proper.
