Not much talk about the show this year. Anybody going? Find any deals on Motels this year?? I did not find any good prices close to the Expo Center.
Will probably wait till the Ohio shows. But I sure miss the SOS, I could stay in there for a week, and still think I missed something.

Ryan,,, a lot of the guys that went no longer are here! And many don't go due to health reasons or just aren't interested anymore. Didn't see many young guys at the MAX,, SOS probably the same. Without the new young blood becoming interested attendance will fall even more.. Most schools now days study WWII for less than a week so don't see the next generation becoming in to the hobby sadly..

I think that a lot of the younger guys read forums like this one, and find out that the really good stuff is priced out of this world, and they read that the starter stuff will never be in demand or worth anything,
so why collect it. After all, I find myself not buying things I would normally buy for the same reason. Passed on a early SA at the last gun show for $300, decent scabbard with no dents and fair grip, but no eagle.
Plus it is getting expensive to hit the big shows, Motel rooms, gas, food, parking it all ads up.

The really good stuff was always expensive, Ed.

I can remember in 1961-2 that in England, an SS sold for £25 and I could not afford it.

I agree Dave. I can remember when buying a nice uncirculated Morgan silver dollar for $10 was h lot.
I just think the young collectors today look at $2000.00 ( and up ) for a dagger as a no can do. They have no problem spending that, and more, on a new cell phone though.
To each his own. You get what you pay fore, and today you have to be wise about it.
We all or at least most, of us old timers ,probably remember eating hot dogs and beans for a month or more to get that new addition to the stash. I did it all the time.
Things and people are different today. Life goes on.

It the market is interesting right now. One of the big problems is that most collectors are looking for condition. Just try to find an early, super nice SA or HJ Dagger for a cheap price. Those days are gone. I started last year with 70 SA Daggers in inventory in various conditions. They are all gone and I was out by the end of November. Same with nice HJs. I do have a few HJs, but all the really nice ones are gone. 2nd Lufts with all the gold on the Swastikas are in high demand right now. I have a waiting list. As usual, early SS M33s are very hard to find in super condition. Grip condition is what they all ask about first. The dagger market is strong. Many collectors prowl the mail order market. Many of the daggers that come in go out before I can get them on the web page.

The one constant in this hobby, from collectors is "rising prices" 1977 Star Wars figure by Kenner that my brother and I played with as a kid original cost $1.98 My father bought them at clearance for .99 those figures if mint and graded are worth as much as $30,000 each they were mass produced by the millions in China or Hong Kong if my father had invested $500 he would be a millionaire today I sold my 1960s GII Joe collection back in 1998 and bought my first Corvette from the profit today I woud able able to purchase a brand new one from the same collection .....guys militaria is a bargain at these prices look at Barbies Pokemon cards for $100,000 really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! daggers are a work of art comparatively speaking look at sports memorbillia GOD there are even marbles that bring crazy money WW2 movies are still being made and are popular Hitler is always playing somewhere on my satelite television Barnes and Noble are full of WW2 books...............magazines Interest is still high as is demand if its dying why are dealers' sales through the roof Let me know when prices tumble....I'll be waiting see ya at the SOS cheers and best, Ryan

IF dealers prices keep rising on the older established dealers its because of two things,,,,,One, they want the most they can get before one of them [husband or Wife] 'kick off' pure and simple. wink...

Two - There is also what I call the 'Honey / Travel' factor... The golden age collector was spending large amounts of money in the late 50s, 60s, 70s.. The wife's complained and complained to their husbands to stop wasting their hard earned money.. The collector would say , " Honey,,,don't worry when we're old and retired I'll be able to sell all this stuff for big profits and I'll be able to travel the world with you honey!"

Well their common stuff isn't selling, and what is good he must raise to the roof to just pay for the shows tables, the house taxes and the $9.a dozen eggs! crazy

I find this true in everything I collect. I do collect a lot of things, German daggers, medals, bayonets, US fighting knives, Firearms, toys, silver coins, beer items, etc.
I'm 74 now, and have been doing this from a very young age.
Everything that I am looking to acquire now is top price.
The big collectors will not sell anything at a great price, I must keep a eye for the guy walking the isles trying to sell, there I can get a good price, because the dealers still feel they have to make a large profit.
Thats just the way it is with everything, even eggs. Eggs here are under $3.00 now, and still going down.
Good luck to all at the SOS, have a great time.

The show was one of the best I have ever attended, absolutely packed with dealers/members and the public attendance was huge. Without doubt the best show in the world.

So, my take on the show. I brought a really crappy sa and sold it just walking around the price was fair but in years past I would have taken that one home or sold for parts. I thought the dagger prices were insane sa pushing 1200. But this time we went to find Jewish holocaust stuff for a museum here there was none but if you asked some folks had stuff under the table. others got really nervous and said they were told not to bring that stuff. Now I do not understand this museum is trying to show what these people had went through during the war and it is being hid at a show what's next nazi stuff. But like i said we were able to find some stuff I hope they can make it work. Another thing I thought really weird was there is a gun show going on at the center and a cheer leading coemption going on so you have folks walking through all these kids with guns and no one seems to care you think they would do these on different days. All in all, I bought nothing for myself I guess I'm old i just won't pay those prices.

That was a really nice SS ring JR picked up, it is on his site, already sold.
He always gets such assume stuff.

I kind of liked the gun show going on at the same time. I always found things there. It is a nice gun show.
Seems there is always a lot going on the SOS weekend.
The Catfish Convention, Quilt show, Antique show.

I found the show to be very decent and well attended. I didn't pick up much, and didn't get anything that I was shopping for Only saw one so so condition officers medical visor. Herman Historica had a mint one but for auction....that was it for medical officers other than 1 crusher (which I didnt want) Gebrigsjager visors I saw one...two Admin being passed as Mountain...... SA dagger prices were crazy but then they have been affordable for soooo many years we have become spoiled. Merely a matter of time before they surpassed $1000 Even decent Heer daggers were $850++ Nice Waffenrocks were $1275 to $2200 Heer and Luftwaffe tunic were very high clean officer visors were $1200 to $2500 even clean Artillery were very expensive.... We all want prices low when we buy and high when we sell...... can't have it both ways unless you started 35 years ago or longer.....A good show overall far better than the MAX IMO....cheers, R P.S Gaspare I took lots of pics I will forward them to you should you want to post them
