A well known "memento mori" pattern.......with silver plating left in recess only.

I found my old pics of the skullring.

yes a very old pattern.. A MM ring will always have at least one or combo of:

- A skull,, a hour glass,, a scythe,, stars,, a half moon,, a sword,, and occasionally a crucifix.,,a swastika regular or reversed ..

Benten,,,what are those marks your showing us? some type hallmarks.....

- And Ric,,,is the content mark on your Pz skull ring behind the skull in a square??

Of course, G........content mark is there...as expected.

The squares:

I don't know Gaspare. There are very small differences in high; the left inside square is in incuse, deep, the right inside quare is a bit higher, the square on the rear is "highest" . Very small differences. Maybe they are also symbolic, just like the other symbols on the ring.

Ric .,, there it is!! , just crossing the Ts and dotting the i . There are some that will insist that there be cross-hatching inside the eyes,,also cross-hatching in between and around the band designs.. What most don't realize is that everyone copied each other,,especially if its a popular ring!. I have even seen them with eyes/ nose cut out and be authentic. Small inconsistencies are fine as long as the main criteria is there[which I won't mention].. Ric your looks fine and wouldn't mind having it myself..
In the early days you sell things thinking 'there are more where those came from'! , Sadly there isn't

Benten , Ric,, your MM rings are both nice examples. Even worn you can see it had at one time really good details. And yes,,the flash plating like some other rings came off after a few times of wear..

Benten, maybe the mark are a kind of 'witness' mark or alignment marks..Are they solid or something / a design inside each mark? , Ric,,does yours have the same marks in same places?

We should probably have 2 separate topics,,the Pz ring and the MM ring. But for now this will do fine...
So no one has a problem with the Pz ring and thats great..

The MM skull ring many won't touch. Many thinking they are postwar. But the pattern has been around a long time and I'm sure there have been German soldiers dug up wearing the ring.. No reason to reproduce them as there were many made throughout the years..
