So the question is! What was the purpose of the mini?
Advertising? Sales sample? letter opener?

Everything I've read says they were used as:
- Salesman's samples
- Letter openers
- Advertising pieces with distributor's names
- Award plaques and desk sets

Alcoso had them in their catalogue The Alcoso mini with the marbel base is refered to as letteropener with paperweight. The standard mini as letteropener. These were also used as relations gifts with the firm name etched etc.
Salesman sample imo is just a made up story, mainly launched by dealers to get more out of it. I have posted a scan of the original Alcoso catalogue in the days on warrelics, i was granted by Tidax who posted it once on a German Forum. Thx again Thomas!
Cheers Ger

Oh yes matching duos are the best! The big one is Eickhorn with blade made by Paul Dinger and the small one has blade made by Paul Dinger or Carl Wester. No way to know which one of those two made it but it would be really cool if the letter opener would be also Dinger's damascus.

Well i most say i dont like the damast mini, totally not the quality that i have seen on period ones. The damast Smith in the days for sure wouldnt make a stupid mistake in the motto like this one has. It should be: hervorragendes, on this one the N is missing. Sorry to say, but imo the mini has a fake blade.

I see what you mean. Its post war piece anyway. Since WeDi was founded by Dinger and Wester in 1950. Then there is a question if its intentional misspelling on etching plate or not.
