Welcome, Saarland, to GDC. Lots of good stuff here !

So far, the parts look real. Can we see the scabbard too ? You sure started at the high end of SS Daggers !

Thank you! I did all measurements and fittings seem to mach to the period piece from my research. Sorry I didn't post the scabbard, however it is anodized as it should be in mint condition. The bottom fiiting on the scabbard has some dings. I will post when I can get home to take pictures. What do you value a Jacobs & Co SS around?

I'll wait to see the scabbard and hopefully a few more of the dagger .. like close ups of the guards, eagle, motto, etc.

Is it just me, or does the grip look new, and the guards worn

No, I think its the pictures and the lighting. Everything seems to match to me. I have compared it to my SA dagger and everything measures correctly. It has the correct weight and feel. If this is original what do you think the value you would be?

I saw one on Wittmann's sight with the city spelled incorrrectly (Graerath) that was sold as an original. At least this has the umlaut and his spelled correctly (Gräfrath). This one has a Assmann hanger.

The entire grip, hilt, fittings, emblems, are all fake. The scabbard appears fake as well. I wouldn't put much faith in the blade being the last component.

That is indeed a complete copy, the blade also: scratchy cross grain and artificial spotting around the maker mark are very obvious red flags.

Good eye, JR,

I suspected something from the initial pics. The scrubbed guards and that 4th photo of the blade ... but not 100% sure so asked for more.

Saar - - JR is right. Get your money back. eek Maybe tell us who sold this ?

I'll post more later.

Thanks, for the information. I am trying to bee objective as possible with this dagger. I will say from having on my persons, it looks like it has been put back in the scabbard wet hence the spotting.

Hello If J R Meda and Herman say it is "bad" then you can take that to the bank.............they wouldn't state if they thought it required an in hand inspection. Sorry, cheers

Just to be clear I wasn't questioning JR's opinion, I have purchased items from JR recently. All this makes me not want to collect anymore!

Look closely - Interesting to note that the crossguard stamp is NOT the "I" we normally see but three separate small spikes struck to look like the I eek

When I compare the trademark to mine, letters are much fatter. Also the tang marks are really crisp and legible ... maybe too much so ?

I'd pass

Sooner or later someone will like it.
You know what they say, if you give a typewriter to a monkey, it will eventually type a word.
Sounds like a bad dagger.

Here is what the trademark should look like. I always thought the Jco looked "thin and spidery".

Note: Umlaut on first A but not second

So that's NOT some sort of grammar issue.
Internet on Google does not have an umlaut at all when discussing the town.
I can't check mine from 45 years ago as it's in the bank.

Thanks!

Here is the Mark of another Jacobs. Just one umlaut. In addition, Carter's book shows just one.
