Somebody paid WAY too much. If they bring that kind of money I have a bunch to sell and would be a very happy guy. Got any pics of the one that sold for that amount? Maybe it is some rare varient... Mark

Looks like a PUMA, worth some bucks (maybe $300.00) IF it is a period PUMA. On second look, that is a weird clip on the scabbard. It looks way long. Maybe it is some rare one I never saw? Mark

Hi Itaska, First welcome to the site.
These knives are worth anywhere from $150.00-300.00 and may just maybe $350 in mint condition. I have seen nice Luft fighting knive selling for $500.00 at a show not long ago, way too much IMO, needless to say i walked away and bought a mint Luftwaffe dagger for $550.00 at the same show as it was coming in the door, ebay just had one sell for $135.00 in about the same condition within the last month.
If you like Itaska send me some pictures i'll give you a honest value of each. I'm not a long time dealer but i have been following these for the last couple years or so.
PM me i'll send my email address, don't worry about a personal interest i don't collect these knives.
EW

I pulled the trigger on this one a few days ago. Not in hand yet. NOTE: It was not quite in the $470.00 neighborhood, but the next street over. Cheers

Great orginal boot knife Mann. The Luftmarking "6" is not so common. Congrats. LH http://gotavapen.se/market/index.php

Nice knives guys. I agree, prices can get crazy for these. There are always a couple of Lufts on ebay on any given day, and if you're patient you can pick them up for reasonable prices. Here's some I've picked up, the most I paid for any of these was $200 for a near mint one.
Mark - the one on the right is the more common knife with a long boot clip that I think Reibert was referring to.

Hi, Tim !
Two hundred Bucks for a mint Kampfmesser der Luftwaffe ?
Congrats !
And, yes, the one on the right was the knife, I meant.
Its the very common Infanteriemesser 42

Hi R. Great looking knives, I love the condition! I like the Bowie blade versions. Here's one of my favorites - slightly unusual with the grooved grips, Bowie blade, and crossguard. Yeah, $200 wasn't bad, it was mint after all A lot of the fun of collecting for me is the hunt. I can't afford every nice thing I see and I pass up a lot I'd like, but there's always something else right around the corner and sometimes I get lucky. Cheers, Tim

Hi, Tim !
pics of an Eickhorn IM 42 showing the, (not so common), Bowie-style blade.
You can see, that this knife was heavilly used, but I like it, anyway ...

Hi, Tim ! The grip is (should) made of one-piece iron-casting. I dont think, theres any markings, because this kind of knife is a, so named, "nicht abgenommene Dienstwaffe" WW I Era. @ seany: Very nice Eickhorn, but the scabbard is WW I The WW I knife is great, congrats ! (also the "Eick", no question ! ) Rgds., R.

Servus ! I do not know, theres a list of the manufactures of the "Infanteriemesser 42". But IMO many different manufacturers in the Reich produced this "IM 42", (blank, with, or without makers-marks stamped on the blade, with, or without on the blade stamped codes instead the Logo). Known manufacturers of the "Infanteriemesser 42": Gebrder Grfrath, W.K.C., Tiger, Herder, Alcoso, Eickhorn, Gebrder Weyersberg, F.W. Hller, ....

Another maker of fighting-knives, (better: "utility"-knives), was PUMA.
Remarkable was the red-brown bakelite grip. Puma also produced "tool-knives" during the war.
This maker stamped its blades in several, different ways.
One example:

@ seany again:
The reason why Im asking is, that Im looking for pics of another PUMA with this particular mark on the blade:
PUMA SOLINGEN, (combined with the Aluminium crossguard and the Bowie-style blade).
You know, that PUMA marked theyre blades with different makers marks, and PUMA also manufactured theyre knives with different kind of blades, also, crossguards!
