As I am not a skull ring guy( not yet anyway), I wanted to get some opinions on this skull ring I picked up recently. It is chromed brass, and has great detail...pebbling in the design, stylized leaf motif in the curlicues. Non adjustable, seam on the back, size 8 1/2. What do you guys think?

this pattern is directly taken from the German WW2 pattern. This ring though is a post war premium ring. Pretty sure it is shown in the Overstreet Premium book and you'll see them mostly here in the states. Think we've shown an advert for it before.. Although postwar it does have good value. Usually worth just as much to the premi ring collectors as the German counterpart is to us!

Agree w Gaspare. I have a premium myself, sometimes they set stones in the eyes- mine has red ones, but it was a different pattern. Toy and prize ring collectors do like them, they're legit collectibles- just a small collecting niche as with us, so actual price in the end can vary quite a bit depending on who's bidding and when.

Thanks for the info guys! I rather thought it was a premium ring, but I liked the style, and got it for a good price. I'll find a legit skull one of these days.

Basically means "prize" as in send in 10 box tops and $2.99 - get some X-ray specs and a secret decoder ring!

you would send it box tops in the old days to get a prize.. Or get them from the ice cream man, back of a comic book, or the 5 and 10 cent store etc.
Heres an advert:

these books are inexpensive, interesting and I recommend them if you run across them!
You would be very surprised how much some of these rings go for!!

Well u would be surprised - some are really nice, others are just kind of unique or crazy- here's one I just saw on eBay it's IMHO a mans premium ring from maybe mid century of a "bullet" ring but if u look close IMHO it's a prize ring that's supposed to be a rocket or a spaceship that doubles up as a whistle.

Looks like a 1930's or 1940's ring that kids send away for. Flash Gordon ?

That was my guess too Dave - looks like it for sure! I think Gaspare has the book- or perhaps the ring! Maybe he will tell us for sure what it is.

Mike,, sorry man, I do own the Premium book but its packed and hi and dry at a safe house [hurricane season started!]
I do remember seeing that ring though. And yes It looks like a Flash Gordon piece or similar..There are many Premium ring collectors in the US.. A ring like that could easily go for $100.

Had a email asking about my saying some rings are Premium rings and have value.. This topic shows the book cover. Has rings from famous SS cloth collector Bob Hritz!
Here is another topic :
https://forum.germandaggers.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=234698&Searchpage=7&Main=21512&Words=premium+%27Mens%27&Search=true#Post234698
There are more topics/rings here....... - So the book is old and the value of these have risen like our PP rings.. Some are quite valuable! The book is very inexpensive used..
